How can we help?

HF Station Names: Aviation HF, Marine HF and the EiBi Schedule

Below 30 MHz, Radio mode tells you what’s on the frequency you’re tuned to from three sources.

Built In: Aviation HF and Marine HF

Squawker PC’s own Aviation HF dataset (VOLMET, oceanic control and the MWARA route families) and Marine HF dataset (coast stations, GMDSS and distress channels, weather fax and voice broadcasts, naval and coast guard broadcasts, cruising and fishing nets) are used straight away — they’re the same datasets you can browse in the main window, so there’s nothing to download. These services run around the clock rather than to a broadcast schedule, so they’re always shown as current.

Downloaded: the EiBi Broadcast Schedule

If you’re on an HF-capable radio, click ⬇ EiBi HF schedule to download the current seasonal shortwave broadcast schedule (from eibispace.de, a free community source, updated twice a year) — this isn’t bundled with Squawker PC, so you’ll need to fetch it yourself, and it needs re-downloading each season to stay current. Once installed, broadcasters are only shown during their scheduled hours and days.

What You See

None of this gives you a browsable list — instead it powers two things automatically:

  • An info line above the waterfall shows what’s on your tuned frequency right now, with the mode, service and area, and an approximate distance (worked out from the station’s country, so it’s coarse — and wrong for a relay transmitting from somewhere else).
  • Known stations get labelled tick marks on the waterfall itself when they fall within your current view, so you can see what’s nearby without tuning to it first (hover for the name).
