The Programming Workflow

1. Open Programmer and select the profile for the radio you want to program, then Open Editor — this opens a model-specific window with an editable list of channels/banks.
2. Build up what you want programmed — load your Multi-Select/export selection, or add/edit entries directly in this editor. This editing screen is your review step — check it carefully before programming, since there’s no separate “confirm these changes” preview beyond what you see here.
3. Click Program (or the equivalent Start button for your model). Depending on your radio and your backup setting, you may see a confirmation warning before anything actually writes — take it seriously, since it’s telling you exactly what’s about to happen.
4. If automatic backup is enabled, that runs first (see Backups).
5. Programming proceeds with a progress indicator showing what step it’s on — entering program mode, writing each bank/channel, then exiting program mode.

Cancelling

Clicking Stop during programming doesn’t stop instantly — it finishes writing the channel currently in progress and stops before starting the next one, rather than rolling back anything already written. Whatever’s been written up to that point stays written, and Squawker PC tells you exactly how far it got (e.g. “Stopped after writing 32 of 50 channels”) so you know your scanner now holds a mix of old and new data — restore from your backup if you need the original configuration back.

If the Connection Drops Mid-Write

Squawker PC will attempt to cleanly exit program mode and close the connection if something goes wrong, but this is a best-effort cleanup, not a guarantee — if the connection is genuinely lost partway through, there’s a real risk your scanner is left with a partial write or stuck in program mode. This is exactly why the backup step matters: if a write goes wrong, having a known-good backup to restore from is your safety net, not a “redo and hope” situation.
