AR-DV1 Tuning: Steps, IF Bandwidth & Step Adjust

Summary: Setting the tuning step, IF bandwidth and step adjust on the AR-DV1.

Frequency Step

Press [F] then [2], turn the dial and press [ENT]. Steps: 10 Hz, 50 Hz, 100 Hz, 500 Hz, 1, 2, 5, 6.25, 7.5, 8.33, 9, 10, 12.5, 15, 20, 25, 30, 50, 100 and 500 kHz. Use 8.33 kHz for UK airband. There’s no auto step.

The receive frequency must be divisible by the step. If not (for example 148.010 MHz on a 20 kHz step) you need step adjust.

Step Adjust

In the step screen press [PASS], turn the dial to the adjustment and press [ENT]. The adjustment can be no more than half of the step (the step must be above 0.1 kHz). A “+” appears next to the step when it’s active. 148.010 MHz on a 20 kHz step needs a 10 kHz adjustment.

Fast Tuning

Press [F] then turn the dial (or press [UP]/[DOWN]) to move at ten times the step. Press [F] again to go back to normal.

IF Bandwidth

Press [F] then [MODE], turn the dial and press [ENT]. Choose the narrowest bandwidth that gives good audio: too narrow distorts, too wide brings adjacent interference. Only analogue modes can be changed; digital modes choose automatically.

  • FM: 200, 100, 30, 15 (default), 6 kHz
  • AM: 15, 8 (default), 5.5, 3.8 kHz
  • SAH / SAL: 5.5 (default), 3.8 kHz
  • USB / LSB: 2.6 (default), 1.8 kHz
  • CW: 500 (default), 200 Hz

Typical use: 200 kHz for VHF FM broadcast; 30-100 kHz for wireless microphones; 15 kHz for PMR and amateur; 6 kHz for airband and shortwave broadcast; 3 kHz for shortwave utility; 500 Hz for Morse.
