How can we help?

UBCD3600XLT Discovery Mode

Summary: How Trunking Discovery and Conventional Discovery on the UBCD3600XLT find, log and record unknown channels.

What Discovery Does

  • Trunking Discovery monitors a trunked system, logs channel activity and records the audio, to help you find unknown IDs.
  • Conventional Discovery monitors a range of frequencies, logging active ones and recording the audio of frequencies not already known to be in use in your area, so you can identify the users. This covers conventionally used frequencies as well as those used in trunked systems.
  • In both you can compare hits with the database and log all hits or only new ones.
  • With Auto Store on, Discovery creates a new Trunking System for the IDs found, or a new Conventional System for frequencies found, in each session.
  • You can save several sessions with different settings. Every time you start a session you create a Run that you can later review on the scanner or in Sentinel.

Creating a Session

Menu, Discovery, then Trunking Discovery or Conventional Discovery, then New Session.

  • Conventional: enter a Session Name.
  • Trunking: enter the first few letters of the system name (the system must be enabled for scanning), select the system, select the site, and enter a session name.

Session Options

  • Start Discovery – press Menu to stop and review the Run; press Avoid to avoid a hit; Func + System exits.
  • Edit Session Name
  • Set Limit Frequencies (Conventional) – lower and upper limits
  • Set Modulation (Conventional) – Auto, AM, FM, NFM, WFM or FMB
  • Set Step (Conventional) – Auto, 5, 6.25, 7.5, 8.33, 10, 12.5, 15, 20, 25, 50 or 100 kHz
  • Set Delay – 0 to 5 seconds
  • Set Logging – All or New Only
  • Set Compare to Database – On means only new channels get audio recorded (if enabled); Off treats all hits as new.
  • Set Record Duration – None, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, 300 or 600 seconds per new channel.
  • Set Time-Out Timer – Off, 10, 30 or 60 seconds, to stop a stuck channel taking over the whole run.
  • System Information (Trunking) – where the system came from (database or a Favorites List), its type, and the system used.
  • Set Auto Store – On or Off; creates a system called Conventional Discovery or Trunking Discovery.
  • Delete Session
  • Change System (Trunking) – change the system or site used.

Reviewing Discovery

Menu, Discovery, Review Discovery, choose the trunking or conventional results, and select a run:

  • Review Run Results – Summary (list by each frequency) or Detail (list by each hit)
  • Restart this Run – deletes all log files
  • Resume this Run – continues without deleting the log files
  • Delete this Run and Rename this Run
  • Run Information – shows the session settings
