How can we help?

Creating a Connection Profile

Open Connect Settings to create and manage profiles — each one bundles together a name, a scanner system/model, and the connection details needed to reach it.

Every Profile Needs

  • A Profile Name — anything you like, to tell profiles apart in the Connect Panel dropdown.
  • A Scanner System, and — for Uniden/Whistler/ICOM — a specific Scanner Type (model) from the lists in Supported Radios & Scanner Systems.

A Shared Postcode

There’s a single Postcode field at the top of the window, used for distance calculations across all your profiles — it’s not set per-profile. You’ll need this filled in before you can launch any profile (see Launching a Profile).

Connection Details (Varies by System)

  • Uniden / Whistler — pick a COM Port from the dropdown; use Refresh Ports (Uniden) or Scan for Whistlers (Whistler) to have Squawker PC probe your available ports and find it automatically.
  • ICOM CI-V — pick a COM Port, and enter your radio’s CI-V Address (a 2-digit hex code — see Connecting Your Radio for common values). Use Test Connection to confirm it before saving.
  • Proscan — instead of a COM port, point this at ProScan’s Current Channel.txt file; Squawker PC will try to find it automatically in the standard install location, or you can browse to it manually.
  • SDRuno/SDR# (com0com) — select a com0com virtual port pair (with links to download/open com0com if you don’t have it set up yet).
  • SDRuno/SDR# (Squawker Plugin) — install the plugin (downloaded and extracted into your SDRuno/SDR# Plugins folder automatically) and choose a local port for it to use.
  • Squawker Fast Scanner — no connection fields here; it’s a simple toggle, since it talks to your SDR hardware directly rather than through a profile connection. Radio/band/squelch settings for it live in its own scanner window once launched.

Enabling Scanner Programming

For supported Uniden models (UBC125XLT/C, BCT15X, UBC3500XLT, UBC800XLT, BCD160DN, BCD260DN, BCD436HP, BCD536HP, UBCD3600XLT, SDS100/100E/200/200E) and the ICOM IC-R15, tick Enable Programming to allow Squawker PC’s Programmer tool to write channels directly to that radio — see the Export Panel category for what the Programmer does with a selection once this is enabled.
