BCD436HP/536HP Programming Sites & Band Plans

Summary: How to create and edit sites: trunking frequencies, band plans, modulation, quick keys and location.

Creating a Site

Menu, Manage Favorites, the list, Review/Edit System, the system, Edit Site, then New Site or select one.

Site Options

  • Edit Name
  • Set Site Quick Key – 0-99 or none. A site with no quick key is always scanned unless avoided.
  • Set Site Type (EDACS only) – Wide (standard, 9600 baud control channel; default) or Narrow (4800 baud).
  • Edit Band Plan (Motorola and P25 only)
  • Set Frequencies
  • Set Modulation (not P25) – Auto (default), NFM or FM.
  • Set Attenuator – about 20 dB; default Off.
  • Set Avoid
  • Set Location Information
  • P25 Waiting Time (Motorola only; default 400 ms, 0-1000), P25 Threshold Mode and Level (P25 and Motorola; Auto/Manual/Default; 0-20, default 8)
  • Delete Site, New Site

Set Frequencies

Program the site’s trunking frequencies with New Frequency or edit an existing one. For EDACS and LTR sites, also enter the LCN. You can delete frequencies here.

Band Plans

P25: most systems are “explicit” and send everything on the control channel – leave the band plan blank and the scanner fills it in. Implicit systems need a Custom band plan: choose a plan (0-9, A-F), then base frequency and spacing.

Motorola:

  • 800/900 Standard or 800 Splinter use the regular plans.
  • Custom (rebanded), VHF and UHF systems need a lower and upper base frequency. The lower base is the value in the RadioReference database. Uniden provides an Excel calculator and web page for the upper base, and RadioReference has guidance on base, step and offset for VHF and UHF Motorola systems. Choose plan 1-6, then Set Base Freq (lower, upper), Set Offset (offset and polarity, + default), and Set Spacing.
  • For a standard 800 MHz rebanded system, set Band Plan 1 to lower 851.025 MHz, upper 854.000 MHz, offset 440, polarity +, spacing 25 kHz; and Band Plan 2 to lower 851.0125 MHz, upper 868.9875 MHz, offset 0, polarity +, spacing 25 kHz.

Set Location Information

Sites and departments can have a location for Location Control or a GPS. Set up your GPS format and baud rate first (see BCD436HP/536HP Setting Your Location, Range & Service Types).

  • Circle: latitude, longitude and a range of 0-6000.
  • Rectangles: top-left latitude and longitude and bottom-right latitude and longitude; you can edit or delete stored rectangles.
