IC-R30 microSD Card: Backup, CSV Import/Export & SD Card Mode

Summary: Everything the IC-R30 stores on its microSD card: settings backups, the CSV files for memory channels, scan edges and GPS memories, SD Card Mode, the folder layout and how to back up to a PC.

What Is Stored on the Card

Receiver data (memory channels and settings), recorded audio, the digital receive history log, and position data from the GPS receiver.

Saving and Loading Settings

Save: MENU, SD Card, Save Setting, <<New File>>, ENTER, YES. The default name is Setyyyymmdd_xx; to type your own, push [CLEAR] to delete characters, enter a name, ENTER, YES (no / : ; * < >). Choose an existing file to overwrite. Save Form (Now Ver or Old Ver) saves in an earlier firmware’s format: a function added in a newer firmware won’t be saved, and a setting file saved in the current format can’t be loaded into an earlier firmware.

Load: MENU, SD Card, Load Setting, choose the file, YES; “COMPLETED! Restart the IC-R30.” shows; restart. Save your current data first.

The Card’s Folders

  • IC-R30 – the top folder
  • Csv – contains GpsMemory, MemoryCh and ScanEdge (CSV files to import or export)
  • Gps – GPS log files (.log)
  • RXLog – receive history CSV files
  • Setting – saved settings
  • Voice – recordings in yyyymmdd folders (wav)

Importing a CSV File

You can import or export Memory channels, Programmable scan edges and GPS memories separately. Before importing, back up all the receiver’s data to the card.

  1. MENU, SD Card, Import/Export, Import.
  2. Choose Memory CH (or scan edges, or GPS memory).
  3. Choose the memory group to import into (for example Group 03). If you choose ALL, every memory channel except the Auto MW and Skip groups is deleted before importing.
  4. Choose the CSV file and YES. “COMPLETED! Restart the IC-R30.” shows: restart the receiver.

File names must be 10 characters or fewer (the receiver can’t display longer ones); this also applies to files exported from the CS-R30.

Exporting a CSV File

MENU, SD Card, Import/Export, Export, choose the data, then the group (or ALL), <<New File>>, ENTER, YES. Files are named Mchyyyymmdd_xx (memory channels), Pscanyyyymmdd_xx (scan edges) or Gpsyyyymmdd_xx (GPS memory). Choose an existing file to overwrite.

CSV Format

Under Digital Set and SD Card, Import/Export, CSV Format there are Separator/Decimal (default Sep [,] Dec [.]; also Sep [;] Dec [.] and Sep [;] Dec [,]) and Date (mm/dd/yyyy, yyyy/mm/dd or dd/mm/yyyy). The receiver’s setting should match the file you import.

SD Card Mode (Direct PC Access)

  1. Connect the receiver to a PC by USB and turn it on (a card must be inserted).
  2. MENU, Function, USB Connect, SD Card Mode, then YES. The IC-R30 folder appears on the PC as a drive.
  3. Copy files as needed (for example back up the whole card), then eject the device in Windows and wait for “Safe To Remove Hardware” before unplugging.

In SD Card Mode the receiver works only as a storage device, and temporarily stops recording and logging. You can also read the card in a card reader.

USB Connect Options

Charge Only; Serialport (default: program the receiver, output D-STAR data and GPS information, and remote control using CI-V; needs the Icom USB driver); SD Card Mode. See IC-R30 USB, CI-V & Cloning.

Backing Up to a PC

Copy the whole IC-R30 folder to a backup folder regularly. Cards have a limited life; a card that can’t be read or written has reached its end. Don’t change the external power voltage while the card is being accessed.
