Summary: Working with channels and scan lists – what each field does, and a real gap worth knowing about with tone/squelch.

Scan Lists Instead of Banks

This radio has no bank concept – its 1,024 channel memory slots are grouped by scan lists instead, of which there are 24, each with a name up to 3 characters. A channel belongs to one list at a time (or none, or the special “ALL” list). Rename a list via the List Name field above the tabs and Save Name; the tab itself always shows the list’s number and current channel count alongside its name.

Channel Fields

• Name – up to 10 characters.
• Freq (MHz) – the channel’s frequency.
• Mode – FM, AM, or USB.
• Offset – the transmit offset from the receive frequency (Transceiver mode only – hidden entirely in Receive Only mode).
• Tone – the access tone sent when transmitting (also hidden in Receive Only mode).
• RX Only – a per-channel checkbox forcing that one channel to never transmit, regardless of the overall mode toggle. Hidden for AM-mode rows, since AM channels can’t transmit at all on this radio.
• Scan List – which list (1-24, or 25 for “ALL”) this channel belongs to; edit the number directly if you want to move a channel between lists.

Use Add Channel to create a new row in the currently selected list, and the Remove button on any row to take it out.

A Real Limitation: No Receive Tone/Squelch

Squawker PC only ever sets a channel’s transmit tone – it deliberately never sets a receive tone or squelch condition, so nothing gets missed while you’re just listening. In practice this means every channel programmed by Squawker PC receives everything on its frequency regardless of tone, and there’s currently no way to set up tone-based receive squelching (e.g. only unmuting for a specific CTCSS tone) through this Programmer.
