How can we help?

Scanning

Summary: Scanning a frequency range or your memory channels, using scan lists and priority channels, and finding an unknown tone.

Frequency Scanning

Put a VFO in frequency mode, set a starting frequency and a step (Step), then long-press \* SCAN.

To scan a limited range, load the lower and upper limits into the two VFOs, long-press 5 NOAA so ScnRng appears, then long-press \* SCAN. Long-press 5 NOAA or press EXIT to leave. While a range scan is stopped on a signal, long-press M to skip that frequency for the rest of this scan (up to 64, cleared on restart).

Memory Scanning and Scan Lists

Switch to channel mode and long-press \* SCAN. The radio has 24 scan lists, plus ALL. Each memory channel can be OFF (never scanned), in one list from 1 to 24, or in ALL.

  • Assign a channel with ScList, or long-press 5 NOAA to cycle OFF, 1 to 24, then ALL.
  • Lists can have short three-character names, which the radio shows instead of the number.
  • While scanning, long-press \* SCAN to move to the next non-empty list, or type 01 to 24 to pick a list, or 00 for ALL.
  • If a list is empty the radio skips to the next valid one.
  • Press a navigation key to reverse direction.

Priority Scan

Set PriCh1 and PriCh2, and switch on ScPri. The radio then checks those two channels every cycle, in between the regular channels, so activity on them is found sooner. A + is added to the list indicator.

What Happens When It Finds a Signal

The ScnRev setting decides: Carrier (resume a short time after the signal ends), Stop (stay on the signal), or Timeout (resume after a fixed pause). Press PTT or M to stop and keep the found channel; EXIT stops and returns you to where you started. Long-press M on a stopped memory channel to leave it out until the next restart. If you switch off while scanning, it resumes at next start.

Normal or Fast Scan Engine

SetScn chooses Normal or Fast. Fast checks signal strength first and skips quiet channels quickly, so it is usually quicker on empty spectrum. Normal fully tunes every step and is the more conservative option.

Finding a Frequency or Tone

Frequency copy: press F then 4 FC, then hold PTT on a nearby radio for a couple of seconds. The frequency and any tone appear, and M saves them. It only works for strong, close signals.

Tone search: with the frequency set, press F then \ SCAN, or use the RxCTCS / RxDCS items and press \ SCAN. It takes a second or two once a signal is received.
