AR-DV3 Cyber Search

Summary: The AR-DV3’s fast FFT-based Cyber Search.

What It Does

Normal search steps through each frequency (about 100 channels a second). Cyber Search uses an FFT to analyse a 500 kHz slice at once (67 ms per 500 kHz). The wider the range and the smaller the step, the more it helps. The manual’s example: FM mode, a 100 MHz range and a 6.25 kHz step takes about 160 seconds normally and about 13.4 seconds with Cyber Search, roughly 12 times faster. In SSB and AM (because of AGC effects) and in digital modes, signal detection may make it slower.

Using It

  1. Hold [SRCH] to start Cyber Search (it uses your search banks). Adjust the squelch.
  2. Choose a bank by typing two digits, or [F] then [UP]/[DOWN] and then [F].
  3. Change direction with [UP]/[DOWN] or the dial. Each full sweep shifts the “0” indicator by one position, and its direction of travel shows whether you’re going up or down.
  4. Hold [SRCH] to copy the current contents to VFO-Z and end. Press [VFO], [SRCH] or [SCAN] to end.

Search groups (with bank link, where the “0” moves one position per bank) and search pass also work in Cyber Search.
