BCD160DN Tone-Out

Summary: Setting up and using Tone-Out on the BCD160DN to wait for two-tone, single-tone and group paging tones, or to search for unknown tones.

What It Does

Tone-Out monitors up to 10 channels for paging tones: two-tone sequential, single tone and group tone. Use Tone-Out Standby if you know the tones and have programmed them; use Tone-Out with the tones left at zero to search if you don’t.

Setting Up a Tone-Out

Menu, Tone-Out for…, Tone-Out Setup, then choose Tone-Out 1-10:

1. Edit Name. 2. Set Frequency: Edit Frequency (the frequency to monitor), Set Modulation (Auto, NFM or FM) and Set Attenuator (On/Off). Press MENU to go back. 3. Set Tone: Edit Tone A and Edit Tone B, in Hz: – Two-tone pages: both tones. – Single-tone pages (short tones of 1.25-3.75 seconds): tone A, and 0 for B. – Long-tone or group pages (over 3.75 seconds): 0 for A, and the tone for B. – To search for tones: leave both A and B at 0. 4. Set Delay Time: 0 resumes standby as soon as the carrier drops; 1, 2, 5, 10 or 30 seconds resumes after the carrier drops and the time expires; Infinite means you must press Hold after a page to resume. 5. Set Alert: Set Alert Tone (Off or Alert 1-9; the scanner plays each as you scroll), Set Level (Auto or 1-15) and Set Alert Light (On, Off, Slow Blink or Fast Blink).

Press MENU twice to programme more.

Using Tone-Out Standby and Search

1. Press MENU, choose Tone-Out for…, then Tone-Out Standby. You can also assign Tone-Out to one of the three search keys.
2. The Tone-Out name, channel number (1-10) and tones show. Anything received on that frequency isn’t heard, but you still see signal strength bars.

All Tone-Outs with the same frequency (and modulation and attenuation) as the one you select are also, and only, monitored, so you can watch up to 10 Tone-Out channels on one frequency. The scanner shows each channel for two seconds but doesn’t scan them: it monitors the frequency and alerts on any received tone that matches a stored Tone-Out for it, whichever is displayed.

• Turn the scroll control to pick another Tone-Out.
• Press Hold to temporarily hear everything on that frequency; no alerts sound while you do. Press Hold again to return to Standby or Search.
• In Search mode, press Yes/E at Save Found Tones? to store what it found.
• FUNC then ifx/4 for IFX, FUNC then att/7 for attenuation, FUNC then mod/9 to toggle modulation, FUNC then MENU for the Tone-Out for… menu.
