BCD436HP/536HP Managing Favorites Lists, Location Control & Scan Selection

Summary: How to create and manage Favorites Lists, how Location Control works, and how to choose what the scanner monitors, including the full database.

Creating and Editing a List

Menu, Manage Favorites. Choose New Favorites List or select an existing one. Options:

  • Review/Edit System – see BCD436HP/536HP Programming Systems & System Options.
  • Set FL Quick Key – 0-99, or . for none. A list with no quick key is always scanned unless turned off in Select Lists to Monitor. Press the first digit of a two-digit key to get closer, then scroll to the second.
  • Set FL Number Tag (0-99), Set FL Startup Key (0-9; default all off; select keys with E/yes, then Menu to save), Use Location Control (default Off).
  • Review Avoids, Stop All Avoiding.
  • Add Current dB Channels – adds all the channels you’re currently scanning to the list, after you confirm. Avoided channels aren’t added. From the Full Database, only channels inside the set range and in the selected service types are added. From a list with Location Control on, only channels inside the range and selected service types; with Location Control off, only channels in the selected service types.
  • Rename, Delete, Information (file size and number of systems).

Understanding Location Control

Location Control enables or disables sites and departments in a Favorites List depending on your location and range settings. It’s always on when scanning the full database. To use it with a list: turn Use Location Control on for that list (default Off), and make sure the sites and departments have locations. You can’t program a location for a system.

  • With Location Control on, the scanner only sees departments and sites with locations; anything without one isn’t scanned. Systems or departments appended from the database bring their locations with them.
  • With it off, everything in the list is enabled whatever the range.

You don’t need a GPS: with Location Control on, a location set by zip/postal code, Auto Locate or manually, and locations programmed for sites and departments, the scanner compares them. You could put everything into one list and scan by choosing locations. For long journeys a GPS is better – see BCD436HP/536HP GPS & P25 Adjustment Mode.

Set Scan Selection

  • Manage Quick Key Status – enable or disable list and system quick keys from a menu (the number keys do the same).
  • Set Nationwide Systems (Database only) – enable or disable nationwide systems in the database, only while the database is being scanned.
  • Select Lists to Monitor – enable or disable the Full Database, Search with Scan, and each Favorites List. You must enable a list here before its quick key works, or you’ll see Nothing to Scan. You must set a location to enable the database.
  • Set All Lists Off / On.

Managing the Full Database

Menu, Manage Full Database:

  • Review Avoids – see and un-avoid systems, departments and channels (the database must be enabled for scan).
  • Stop All Avoiding
  • Information – the database version in the scanner.
