Extra Features – Air Copy, RF Log, Fox Hunt & More

Summary: A short tour of the optional extras built into the Fusion firmware.

These are optional and not needed for everyday use. Some involve transmitting, so make sure any frequency you use is permitted where you are.

Air Copy

Copies channels or settings from one radio to another over the air, at very low power on the LPD band by default. Start it by holding PTT and side button 2 while switching on. Pick the same section on both radios (a block of 128 memory channels, the settings, or everything), put the receiving radio into receive first, then start sending from the other. Only then press M on the sending radio.

BEAM

Assign BEAM to a shortcut to send the current VFO or channel setup to another radio, or receive one into the first free memory channel.

RF Log

Assign RF LOG to a shortcut to see a history of recent receive, monitor and transmit sessions, newest first, with duration, signal or power. You can filter to RX or TX, and clear it with a long press of M and a confirmation.

Fox Hunt and Beacon

Fox Hunt uses signal strength to help you find a transmitter, with attenuation controls. Beacon can transmit a periodic Morse identification. Beacon is a transmission, so use it only where you are licensed, and note that these modes ignore the sleep timeout until you leave them.

Multiboot and Labs Apps

Some builds can keep several firmware images and separate configurations on one radio, and can run small experimental “overlay” apps. These are advanced features; follow the F4HWN documentation for them.

Resuming and Safety

If you switch off while scanning, scanning resumes at the next start. RescueOps mode disables most long presses and F combinations – if buttons stop behaving as expected, check that too.
