UBCD3600XLT Searching: Quick Search, Custom Search & Search Keys

Summary: How to search for activity on the UBCD3600XLT with Quick Search, ten Custom Searches and three Search Keys, and the options that shape a search.

Search/Close Call Options First

Review Menu, Srch/CloCall Opt before you search – these settings apply to Quick Search and Close Call and complement the custom search settings:

  • Freq Avoids – review the avoided frequencies (temporary ones are reversed) or Stop All Avoiding.
  • Broadcast Screen – automatically ignores common broadcast, paging and other nuisance sources in Custom Search, Quick Search and Close Call. The default is Pager On. Use Set All Band On/Off, Set Each Band, or Program Band to define custom bands (Band 0-9) with a lower and upper limit.
  • Repeater Find – tunes to the repeater output when a signal is found on a repeater input, so you can hear both sides. Default Off.
  • Set Delay Time – how long to wait after a transmission ends before resuming (-10, -5, 0, 1, 2 default, 3, 4, 5, 10 or 30 seconds).
  • Set Attenuator – about 20 dB for Quick Search and Close Call; default Off.
  • Set Audio AGC – analogue and digital, default Off.
  • Digital Waiting Time, Digital Threshold Mode, Digital Threshold Level – as for conventional channels; the search threshold level range is 5 to 13.

Quick Search

Quick Search starts searching at the frequency displayed, or from a frequency you enter. It searches all the way up to 1300 MHz or down to 25 MHz and then starts over.

From the displayed frequency:

  1. Press Channel to hold.
  2. Press Func + E/yes, and at Quick Search? press E/yes.
  3. Press Channel to release and start searching.

From a new frequency: hold on any channel, enter the frequency, press Channel to set the start, and press Channel again to release.

Custom Search

There are 10 Custom Search ranges (Custom 0-9, named Custom 1, Custom 2 and so on by default). Menu, Search for…, Edit Custom lets you set each:

  • Edit Name
  • Edit Srch Limit – lower and upper limits
  • Set Delay Time
  • Set Modulation – Auto, AM, NFM, FM, WFM or FMB
  • Set Attenuator
  • Set Step – Auto, 5, 6.25, 7.5, 8.33, 10, 12.5, 15, 20, 25, 50 or 100 kHz
  • Set Audio AGC, Digital Waiting Time, Digital Threshold Mode and Level
  • Search with Scan – Set Avoid (Stop Avoiding, Temporary or Permanent) and Set Hold Time (0-255 seconds) for how long to search when scanning.

Start one from Search for…, Custom Search. While it runs:

  • Turn the Scroll Control to change direction or resume.
  • Press the number keys to turn each custom search band on or off.
  • Channel holds a frequency; scroll to move; Channel releases it.
  • Direct entry: hold, enter a frequency, press Channel.

Search Keys

Keys 1, 2 and 3 can each start a Custom Search (0-9), a Tone-Out Search or a Close Call search, from Menu, Search for…, Set Search Key. Start one from a Hold mode with Func + 1, 2 or 3.

Search with Scan
