Airspace Frequencies & the Height Control

Summary: What the popup on any airspace block tells you, in plain language, and how to show only the airspace in use at a height.

Click any airspace polygon — civil or military — to open its popup.

The Popup

It opens with a sentence saying what that kind of airspace is, then labelled rows:

  • The type and identifier, and the class with what it means for a flight.
  • The vertical limits in words — “From the surface to 22,000 ft above sea level”, “From FL195 (19,500 ft) to FL245 (24,500 ft)”.
  • The controlling unit, callsign and frequency — for a sector, the frequency table for the controller responsible, each row with a line on what the service is and who talks on it, and the band and mode to listen with (“VHF airband, AM”, “UHF military airband, AM”).
  • The hours, with the AIP’s bracketed summer-time hours explained.
  • The remarks, split into Activity, Service, Contact, Authority and Notes with their shorthand spelt out.

Long popups keep their title and summary in view and scroll the table in the space that is left.

Showing Airspace at a Height

Both Civil and Military Overlays have one control at the top of the section: All heights, a band (Surface – 5,000 ft, 5,000 ft – FL195, Above FL195), or an exact level. Every layer then draws just the volumes an aircraft at that height would be inside, so in busy areas where several airspace types stack on top of each other you see only the ones that apply. A layer with nothing at the chosen height moves to the Not at this height line; picking it there switches it on and returns to all heights. Each section remembers its own choice.
