IC-R20 Dualwatch

Summary: How to receive two bands at once on the IC-R20: turning Dualwatch on, choosing the MAIN band, setting the volume and squelch for each band, and which bands go where.

Turning It On

Hold [DUALWATCH] for 1 second to switch between single band and Dualwatch. The upper frequency is the A-side and the lower the B-side (unless swapped). The MAIN band is the operating band, marked by an indicator.

Main Band and Exchange

  • [MAIN/SUB] (short push) alternates the MAIN band between upper and lower.
  • [MAIN/SUB] held for 1 second exchanges the upper and lower frequencies.

Volume and Squelch

  • Volume: push and hold [SQL] and push the UP or DOWN key for the MAIN band; or, while pushing UP or DOWN, rotate [L-DIAL] for the upper band or [R-DIAL] for the lower.
  • Squelch: while pushing [SQL], rotate [L-DIAL] for the upper band or [R-DIAL] for the lower.
  • Frequency, memory channel, squelch level, scan direction and set mode items act on the MAIN band; with the dials assigned normally, [L-DIAL] tunes the upper side and [R-DIAL] the lower.

Which Bands Can Be Used

  • A-side (upper) only: 1 MHz band, AM broadcast, HF bands and FM broadcast.
  • Both A-side and B-side: VHF air, 144 MHz, 300 MHz and 400 MHz.
  • B-side (lower) only: 800 MHz (some ranges prohibited on the USA version) and 1.2 GHz.
  • Neither: 2.4 GHz.

Limits in Dualwatch

  • AFC isn’t available during Dualwatch.
  • No NB or ANL indicator appears in Dualwatch, but both functions still work in their modes.
  • TV, PreSet and auto-memory write channels are available in single band operation only.

Available bands depend on the receiver version; see IC-R20 Specifications & Options.
