Editing, Sorting & Deleting Channels
Summary: Working with the channel grid – inline editing, bulk-fill tools, managing Groups & Categories, and what Delete actually does.
Categories, Groups & Channels
Every channel belongs to both a Category and a Group – this mirrors the IC-R15’s own memory structure. Each group can hold up to 100 channels, and group numbers must be unique across your entire channel set, not just within one category – this is a limitation of the scanner itself, not Squawker PC. Use Manage Groups & Categories to create, rename or organise these before adding channels; the Filter by Group dropdown then lets you focus the grid on just one group at a time.
Editing Channels
Editing is entirely inline in the grid – click a cell and type. Name is limited to 16 characters to match what the IC-R15 itself can display. Group, Category, Mode, step (TS), Favourite, Skip, Tone, TSQL Frequency and DTCS Code are all dropdown columns.
Adding & Bulk-Filling
Add Channel (only available while filtering by a single group) creates a new channel in that group, copying most settings from the last channel already there so you only need to fill in the name and frequency. While filtering by a group, a bulk-fill toolbar also appears above the grid – Mode, TS, Tone, TSQL and DTCS buttons each let you apply one value to every channel currently shown at once, and Name / Frequency buttons sort the list and renumber the channels in order.
What “Delete” Actually Does
This is worth knowing before you rely on it: Clear Selected (and deleting a single channel) doesn’t remove the row – it blanks that channel’s name, frequency and settings back to defaults but keeps its slot in the list. If you want channels genuinely removed rather than just cleared, use Clear Group or Clear All Channels instead, both of which do remove them – and both ask you to confirm first, since neither can be undone.
