SDS100E Troubleshooting & Reference Tables

Summary: Troubleshooting tips, plus default band settings, service types, weather channels, CTCSS and DCS tones, Motorola status bits and repeater offsets for the SDS100E.

Nothing to Scan

  • Set Your Location to scan the database.
  • Make sure Favorites Lists are enabled in Set Scan Selection.
  • Make sure service types are enabled for the channels you want.
  • If Use Location Control is on, make sure locations are programmed.
  • Check your latitude and longitude signs (the manual assumes N and W for North America). Places east of Greenwich need E.
  • Make sure systems, departments and channels aren’t avoided.
  • Make sure the list, system, department and site quick keys are enabled.
  • For Search with Scan, enable it in Select Lists to Monitor, the Search For menu and the custom search.

Scanning Interrupted Every Few Seconds

Turn off Priority Scan or change the Priority Interval; turn off Close Call Priority; turn off Weather Priority; set a longer, positive channel delay.

All Channels Out of Range

Increase your range, change your location, or turn Location Control off for the list.

Default Band Settings

Used when you choose Auto for modulation or step, unless you’ve edited Band Defaults (steps: 5, 6.25, 7.5, 8.33, 10, 12.5, 15, 20, 25, 50, 100 kHz or Auto). TV bands are listed, but the scanner can’t decode digital TV audio.

Service Types

Aircraft, Business, Corrections, Emergency Ops, EMS Dispatch, EMS-Tac, EMS-Talk, Federal, Fire Dispatch, Fire-Tac, Fire-Talk, Ham, Hospital, Interop, Law Dispatch, Law-Tac, Law Talk, Media, Military, Multi-Dispatch, Multi-Tac, Multi-Talk, Public Works, Race Officials, Race Teams, Railroad, Schools, Security, Transportation, Utilities and Custom 1-8 (user-defined). Aircraft covers civilian aircraft and air traffic control, typically 118-136 MHz and 225-380 MHz AM. Interop is cross-agency and mutual aid.

Type II Motorola Status Bits

Type II Smartnet systems use status bits for special transmissions; the scanner sees them as different talkgroups (ID plus the number): +0 normal, +1 All, +2 emergency, +3 patch, +4 emergency patch, +5 emergency multi-group, +6 unassigned, +7 multi-select; +8 to +15 the same for DES/DVP encrypted talkgroups. Example: a user on talkgroup 16 pressing their emergency button moves everyone to talkgroup 18; fire dispatch 1616 sending tone-outs as multi-selects appears on 1623.

Weather Channels (North America)

162.550, 162.400, 162.475, 162.425, 162.450, 162.500 and 162.525 MHz (channels 1-7).

CTCSS and DCS

The scanner detects 50 CTCSS frequencies from 67.0 Hz to 254.1 Hz and 104 hexadecimal DCS codes.

Repeater Reverse List

Examples: 144.51-144.89 MHz +0.6 MHz; 145.11-145.49 -0.6; 146.01-146.385 +0.6; 146.61-146.985 -0.6; 420-424.9875 +5 MHz; 425-429.9875 -5; 440-444.9875 +5; 445-449.9875 -5; 450-454.9875 +5; 455-459.9875 -5; 806-823.9875 +45 MHz; 851-868.9875 -45. There’s a separate repeater frequency list for the UHF and 800/900 MHz ranges.
