IC-R8600 Safety, Precautions & Compliance

Summary: The important safety, precaution and compliance information from the IC-R8600 manual, in plain English, including the CE and UKCA notices.

Precautions

  • Never operate near unshielded electrical blasting caps or in an explosive atmosphere.
  • Never use a headset or accessories at high volume for long periods.
  • Never apply AC power to the [DC 13.8 V] socket, apply more than 16 V DC, or reverse the DC cable polarity. Never remove the fuse holder from the DC cable.
  • Never let metal, wire or other objects touch the inside of the receiver or connectors on the rear panel; never operate or touch it with wet hands.
  • If it emits an abnormal smell, sound or smoke, turn it off, remove the power cable and contact your Icom dealer.
  • Never put it on an unstable place or in a spot with poor ventilation; don’t put it against walls or place anything on top; it becomes hot when used continuously for long periods.
  • Never operate during a lightning storm; disconnect the power and the antenna.
  • Never expose it to rain, snow or liquids; keep it away from dust, direct sunlight and temperatures outside -10 to +60 C.
  • Don’t change internal settings; the warranty doesn’t cover unauthorised adjustments.
  • Never use harsh solvents. Keep it out of the reach of unauthorised users.
  • Turn the power off and/or disconnect the DC cable when not in use for a long time.
  • Small dark or light dots on the display are normal.
  • The receiver may receive its own oscillator on some frequencies (no reception or only noise, including on the spectrum scope).

Grounding

Ground the receiver to prevent electric shock and interference; never connect the ground to gas or electric pipes.

CE and UKCA

  • CE and the EU declaration of conformity: see Icom’s declaration for the CE-marked versions.
  • UKCA: to obtain the UKCA Declaration of Conformity, contact Icom UK Limited at info@icomuk.co.uk or +44 (0) 1227 741741.

Disposal

In the EU (and UK), electrical products, batteries and accumulators must be taken to designated collection points, not put in household waste.

Voice Coding, FCC and Trademarks

  • The AMBE+2 voice coding technology is licensed by Digital Voice Systems, Inc., solely for use within this equipment; you may not extract, decompile, reverse engineer or disassemble it.
  • For US and Canadian versions the manual includes FCC Class B and ISED notices (Icom America Inc., Kirkland, WA; 800-USA-ICOM).
  • Icom is not responsible for damage caused by force majeure, or by using the receiver with equipment that isn’t made or approved by Icom.
  • NXDN is a trademark of Icom and JVC KENWOOD; dPMR is a trademark of the dPMR MoU Association. The manual also lists open-source software licences.

Scanning Legally

The manual has no legal notice about listening. Check the rules where you live before using the receiver, particularly for digital and encrypted or scrambled signals.
