Reading, Backing Up & Restoring
Summary: Reading your current programming in for review, and the two different kinds of backup Squawker PC keeps for this family.
Read from Scanner
This pulls whatever’s currently programmed on your scanner into the editor, replacing whatever’s currently shown. It’s a straightforward one-way read for review, working through your scanner’s Systems, Groups and Channels one at a time – you’ll see the progress as it goes.
Two Kinds of Persistence – Don’t Confuse Them
Squawker PC keeps two genuinely separate things for this family:
- Your editing session is saved automatically every time you close the Programmer window, and reloaded automatically when you reopen it for the same profile – this is invisible, with no button to press, and just means you pick up where you left off.
- The visible Backup and Restore panel is a deliberate, named snapshot you create yourself with Save, or that gets created automatically before a write if Auto backup before sending is ticked. See Model Differences – BCT15X, UBC3500XLT & UBC800XLT for an important caveat about which models that automatic pre-write backup is currently confirmed reliable for.
Restoring, Deleting & Managing Backups
Every backup you’ve made appears in the Existing Backups list with Restore and Delete next to it. Restoring replaces everything currently in the editor with that backup’s contents – it doesn’t write anything to the scanner on its own, so you’ll still need to click Send to Scanner afterward if you want a restored backup back on your radio. Open Folder takes you straight to where backups are stored.
