TRX-2E Bandplans & Frequency Coverage

Summary: The bandplans the TRX-2E offers, with the full UK and Ireland coverage and steps, and the ranges and service search menus for every other bandplan.

How Bandplans Work

The bandplan you choose at first power-up (or later in Global Settings, BandPlan) sets the frequency ranges, the step sizes and modes used in each band, and the Service Search menu. The 2019 guide gives five: UK, AUS, NZL, ZAF and FRA. The band plans addendum (CPU version 7.3, TRX-1E and TRX-2E) gives many more: NL, SWE, PL, CZ, BE, DE, IND, IRL, ESP, DNK and ISR as well. Whistler notes that bandplans are subject to change and to check its online guides for the latest. All lists exclude the US cellular bands (824-848.9875 and 869-893.9875 MHz).

The guide and addendum disagree on some plans (the UK, France and South Africa differ). The addendum is newer, so use it if your firmware is recent, and check your version with Firmware Ver in Global Settings.

United Kingdom (UK)

  • 137.000-137.995 5 kHz FM
  • 138.000-219.99375 6.25 kHz FM
  • 220.000-224.995 5 kHz FM
  • 225.000-399.9875 12.5 kHz AM (military air)
  • 400.000-512.000 6.25 kHz FM
  • 806.000-960.000 12.5 kHz FM
  • 1240.000-1300.000 6.25 kHz FM

UK Service Search menu: Public Safety, U/VHF AM, Mosque, Amateur, CB UK, VHF Mar, PMR446.

The 2019 guide’s UK list differs: it has 29.510-29.700 MHz at 5 kHz, 29.710-47.000 at 10 kHz, 47.000-50.000 at 5 kHz and 50.000-52.000 at 10 kHz, with nothing listed for 28.000-29.510 MHz, and its service search has no Public Safety entry.

Ireland (IRL) in the addendum is the same as the UK plan, with the same service search menu.

What the UK Plan Doesn’t Cover

Nothing is covered between 88 and 108 MHz (FM broadcast), 512 and 806 MHz (which includes UHF TV) or 960 and 1240 MHz. The spacing is worth checking for PMR446: the 6.25 kHz steps between 400 and 512 MHz fit the 446.00625 MHz channel grid.

For the 2019 guide’s plans for AUS, NZL, FRA and ZAF the steps are in the guide itself; the FRA and ZAF versions differ from the addendum.

RadioReference Submission Guidelines

The addendum ends with RadioReference database submission guidelines (public safety, business, transportation and confirmed trunked systems can be submitted; fast food and common-use channels such as MURS and GMRS shouldn’t be). They relate to RadioReference, not to the scanner.
