SDS200E Menu Reference & Settings

Summary: A guide to the SDS200E’s main menu, the Display Options and the Settings menu, including LAN settings and RF filters.

Using the Menus

The menu reference says to press and hold SQUELCH/MENU to open the menu (this section calls it Menu). Menu paths are written as Menu, Main Menu Item, Sub Menu Item. Press Menu to go up a level and Avoid to leave the menu.

The Main Menu

Set Scan Selection, Manage Full Database, Manage Favorites, Set Your Location, Select Service Types, Srch/CloCall Opt, Search For…, Close Call, Analyze, Discovery, Priority Scan, WX Operation (USA/Canada), Tone-Out For (USA/Canada), Display Options and Settings.

  • Set Scan Selection: Manage Quick Key Status; Set Nationwide Systems (similar to the service searches of older scanners); Select Lists to Monitor (doesn’t change quick key status, and an item set to No can’t be turned on with quick keys); Set All Lists Off / On.
  • Manage Full Database: Review Avoids, Stop All Avoiding, Information (last update date).
  • Manage Favorites: see SDS200E Managing Favorites Lists & Location Control.

Display Options

  • Backlight Options: Set Mode (how the backlight behaves when squelch opens and/or a key is pressed), Set Dimmer (default 40%), Set Key Backlight (Enable follows the display backlight; Disable keeps it off), Flash w/Backlight Off (the alert indicator blinks every 5 seconds when the display backlight is off) and External Power Backlight – On always turns the backlight on when external power is present; Off follows your backlight settings.
  • Customize: see SDS200E Customising the Display.
  • Set ID Format (P25/MOT) and (EDCS): show talk group IDs in decimal or hex.
  • Set Scan Display Mode: Simple or Detailed.
  • Set B/W or Color Mode: Color, Black with White Text or White with Black Text; the black-and-white modes are easier to read in direct sunlight.

Settings

  • Adjust Key Beep – rotate to set the volume; Auto matches the current volume.
  • Set Clock – date, time and time zone.
  • Site NAC Operation – Use Site NAC or Ignore Site NAC.
  • Global Auto Filter – choose an RF filter suited to your environment (individual sites and conventional departments can also have their own filter).
  • Band Defaults – default modulation and step per band.
  • Auto Shutoff – how long the scanner runs before switching itself off; Off disables it.
  • Set LAN Settings – Set IP Assignments: Disable (default), Auto (DHCP) or Manual (a Set IP Addresses menu then appears); Show IPs displays the LAN mode, IP address and so on. The scanner restarts automatically if you change any LAN setting and then exit the menus.
  • Replay Options – Set Replay Duration and Review Recordings (play, delete or rename).
  • Restore Options – Clear User Data (deletes all Favorites Lists and user settings) or Reset User Settings (settings only; lists kept).
  • See Scanner Information – % Memory Used and Firmware Version (version and electronic serial number).

Data Naming

You can name Favorites Lists, systems, sites, departments, channels, locations, custom searches, recording sessions, tone-outs and SAME groups with up to 64 characters. Turn the scroll control to choose a character, press the right soft key (>) or left soft key (<) to move the cursor, .NO/PRI to clear a character (twice clears all) and E/YES/Q.SRCH when finished.
