Quick Fill – Auto-Populating Banks Near Your Location

Quick Fill is a fast way to load a UBC125XLT/C with a sensible starting set of frequencies, based on nothing more than a postcode.

Setting It Up

Enter a Postcode (it’s pre-filled from your saved settings, but you can override it). The Marine checkbox controls whether coastal marine VHF channels are included — Squawker PC automatically ticks it for you if your postcode falls in a recognised coastal area, and leaves it unticked otherwise.

You’re not stuck with that automatic guess, though — the checkbox is fully yours to change either way before clicking Quick Fill. Tick it manually even if your postcode isn’t coastal — for example, if you’re setting up a scanner ahead of a trip to the coast, or you just want marine channels included regardless of where you live. Equally, untick it if you’re in a coastal area but don’t want marine channels taking up a bank. There’s no separate radius setting to configure — the distances used for the other categories are fixed (see below).

What Gets Filled, Bank by Bank

Quick Fill works through a fixed sequence, spreading results across as many banks as needed:

1. Bank 1 — Aviation frequencies within 25 miles.
2. Bank 2 — only used if there are more than 50 aviation results; spills the next batch (up to 100 total) into this bank. Anything beyond 100 aviation results is not included.
3. Next bank — ATC transmitters within 50 miles, closest first. If none are found within 50 miles, the 10 closest overall are used instead so this bank isn’t left empty.
4. Next bank — National frequencies (UK-wide, not distance-limited).
5. Next bank (only if Marine is ticked) — Marine VHF channels (UK-wide list, not filtered by your specific postcode).
6. Next bank — Ham 2m/70cm/ISS frequencies.
7. Next bank — PMR446 Analogue.
8. Next bank — Baofeng/FRS/GMRS frequencies.
9. Next bank — Fireground/Mountain Rescue/Polycon frequencies.
10. Bank 0 — CB UK frequencies, capped at 40 channels even though the bank holds 50.

Only Aviation and ATC transmitters are genuinely filtered by distance from your postcode — the Marine, Ham, PMR446, and other UK-wide categories are fixed national lists, not narrowed to your area. If more results exist for any of those non-aviation categories than fit in one bank, the extra ones are simply left out with no additional overflow bank — only Aviation gets that treatment.

Important: Quick Fill Overwrites Without Asking

Unlike using the Data dropdown and Program Bank manually, Quick Fill does not show the Overwrite/Add To/Next Empty prompt — it clears and rebuilds every bank it touches immediately, with no confirmation. Don’t run Quick Fill if you have manually-edited data in those banks you want to keep.

If Nothing’s Found

If there’s no aviation data at all for your postcode, Quick Fill stops immediately with a message telling you so — no other banks get filled in that case, since the whole sequence is built around Bank 1 succeeding first.

When It’s Done

You’ll see a summary listing exactly how many channels went into each bank and category, so you can quickly see what was actually added before reviewing the grid yourself.
