Entering Each Mode

  • Scan mode – tap SCAN. This is the default at power-on.
  • Search mode – FUNCTION + tap SCAN. The scanner offers Quick Search (tap YES) or takes you to the Search for… menu if you tap NO.

  • Close Call Priority / DND – FUNCTION, then tap the SQUELCH knob repeatedly until Close Call Pri or Close Call DND appears.
  • Close Call Only – FUNCTION + press and hold the SQUELCH knob.
  • Priority Scan – FUNCTION + POL/PRI. If no conventional channel in an enabled, unlocked system is flagged priority, the display says Priority Scan No Channel.
  • Priority Plus Scan – FUNCTION + repeatedly tap POL/PRI until Priority Mode Plus On appears.
  • GPS mode – tap GPS (needs a connected GPS receiver).
  • Weather mode – FUNCTION + press and hold GPS/WX.
  • Weather Priority mode – FUNCTION + tap GPS/WX.
  • Weather Alert mode – enter Weather mode, then FUNCTION + tap GPS/WX.
  • Tone-Out mode – MENU, then Tone-Out for…. Tap SCAN to leave it.
  • Band Scope mode – assign a Band Scope search to a Search Key (Search Key 3 by default), enter Search or Hold mode, then FUNCTION + tap that key.

What Each Mode Does

  • Scan checks every unlocked channel you’ve programmed, and for trunked systems every Talk Group ID you’ve programmed.
  • Search checks every frequency in a range you choose, or every active control channel/Talk Group in a trunked system.
  • Hold stays on the current channel and lets you edit or store it.
  • Close Call watches for unusually strong nearby transmitters.
  • Priority interrupts to check priority channels on a timer.
  • Weather, Tone-Out, Band Scope and GPS are specialist modes described in their own articles.
