UBCD3600XLT Setting Your Location, Range & Service Types

Summary: How to tell the UBCD3600XLT where you are, how far to look, and which service types to hear.

Set Your Location

Press Menu, scroll to Set Your Location and press E/yes.

  • Set Manual Location sets your exact location with a default range of 0 km. Enter the latitude (press ./no to toggle N or S) and the longitude (press ./no to toggle E or W). You can then name and save the location.
  • Set Up GPS sets the location format (DMS as DDD MM’ SS.ss, or DEG as DDD.dddddd), the serial port baud rate (Off, 4800, 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600 or 115200; the default is 4800 for a GPS device) and the units.

Set Range

Set Range overrides the default range, to increase or decrease the number of trunking sites and departments you receive when scanning the full database, or Favorites Lists that have Location Control on. Enter 0 to 80 km.

Understanding range:

  1. Range only works with Favorites Lists that have Location Control set to On and with sites and departments that have locations programmed. A site or department with no location has no range, so the setting can’t affect it.
  2. You receive sites and departments whose own range plus your scan range covers the distance. For example, with a scan range of 16 km and a department range of 48 km, a department less than 64 km away is enabled.

Edit Location

Use Edit Location to create or edit a saved location for quick recall.

  • New Location or Edit Location: Edit Name, Use Location (makes it the current location for the database and for Favorites Lists with Location Control on, and asks you to confirm), Delete Location (you can delete only saved locations; the last location set is kept for scanning the database), Set Location Information, Set Range (0-80 km).
  • Save Location saves the current location and range and makes it current.

Selecting Service Types

Not every service type is enabled when you set a location. By default, only Custom 1 is enabled. Channels whose service type is off won’t be scanned.

  1. Press Func and then the List/Services key.
  2. Scroll to each Service Type and press E/yes to enable or disable it.
  3. Press System to exit.

If a service type isn’t in any Favorites List, the scanner shows “—” for it. The list of service types and their descriptions is in UBCD3600XLT Troubleshooting & Reference Tables. If you seem to hear nothing when scanning your own lists, check service types first.

Notes for Users Outside North America

The built-in RadioReference database is for North America only, and the scanner’s own troubleshooting notes assume North American coordinates (north and west). If you’re elsewhere, set your location as normal, but expect to scan Favorites Lists rather than the database. You can build them with UKAFG’s tools – see UBCD3600XLT Loading Frequencies From Squawker PC & Squawker Online.
