DJ-X100E Safety, Precautions & Compliance

Summary: The important safety, precaution and compliance information from the DJ-X100E manual, in plain English.

Legal Notice

The manual warns that it’s illegal in many places to intentionally intercept electronic communication, or to use or disclose information obtained by receiving it, and that possessing and using communications receivers is prohibited in many countries. Check your local radio law and privacy rules before buying and using the receiver. Use earphones or a headset outdoors: letting others listen to communications that aren’t theirs may breach confidentiality. Avoid appearing to eavesdrop near hotels, theme parks and concert halls, where receivers may be banned, and comply promptly if asked.

Dangers and Alerts

  • Don’t use, disassemble or charge the radio or battery in a flammable or explosive atmosphere (such as a petrol station); it isn’t explosion-proof.
  • Don’t use third-party AC adapters, batteries or chargers.
  • Don’t leave it in direct sunlight or a hot place (a car, a window, near air conditioning or a heater): batteries can overheat, rupture or catch fire.
  • Don’t disassemble or modify it. If you notice smoke, an unusual smell, strange noises or swelling, switch it off, remove the battery and unplug the adapter, then contact your distributor.
  • Keep out of reach of children. Don’t damage, bend, twist or pull power cables, and don’t use a damaged cable.
  • Don’t use it in restricted places such as aircraft without permission.
  • Don’t shake or throw it.
  • Never touch the adapter, outlet or charger with wet hands, and don’t put metal objects in the charging terminal.
  • Batteries: never throw them in fire or immerse them; don’t drop them or hit them; don’t solder the terminals or short them with metal objects; if electrolyte gets in your eyes don’t rub them, rinse with clean water and seek medical treatment; stop using a swollen battery and recycle it. Replace the pack after about 3 years (5 at most).
  • Lightning: Alinco accepts no responsibility for using a handheld outdoors or in a car during lightning. No handheld radio is protected against lightning current.
  • Electromagnetic noise: LED lighting, induction cookers, water heaters, automotive electronics and solar power systems can affect reception.

While Driving

Check local traffic regulations about radio use while driving. Don’t drive unable to hear outside sounds (loud external speakers or fully covering headphones can be penalised), and don’t drive wearing the receiver on a belt clip where the antenna may catch.

Handling

Don’t place it in a trouser pocket (it can be damaged when you sit); be careful of dew formation; the receiver can have frequencies with no reception or noise from internal oscillation (spurious), which isn’t a fault.

Compliance

  • CE: Alinco declares that the DJ-X100E complies with the Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU and RoHS 2011/65/EU; the declaration is at alinco.com/Ce/.
  • Disposal: in the EU (and UK), electrical products and batteries must go to designated collection points.
  • US T version: cellular frequencies are not receivable and the analogue voice descrambler is deactivated (not firmware-modifiable). FCC and ISED notices apply to that version.
  • Trademarks and licences: D-STAR reception patents are used under licence from Icom; NXDN is a registered trademark of Icom and JVCKenwood; DMR is a registered trademark of the DMR Association; C4FM is Yaesu’s; the receiver uses a DVSI vocoder to decode AMBE signals.
