The Scan Lists Tab: Building Named Scan Lists

Scan Lists (called Custom Lists in earlier versions) let you build a named, curated set of specific frequencies — useful for things like “everything relevant to my local airfield” or “the repeaters I actually use” — separate from sweeping a whole band.

Creating and Managing Lists

Click ➕ New to create a list (rename it any time by editing the “List name” field), or Delete to remove one entirely — you’ll be asked to confirm, including how many entries you’re about to lose. A Keep button appears when the selected list came from the map (see below).

Scanning Several Lists Together

Every list has a tick box. Tick two or more and the Scanner tab’s List dropdown gains Selected lists (N: names), which scans every ticked list in turn, each frequency once. The ticks are saved with the lists, the choice survives a restart, and the combined set is rebuilt whenever you add, delete or tick a list. One tick on its own does nothing — pick that list by name instead.

Adding Stations

Click ➕ Add stations… to open a picker that searches Squawker PC’s own databases — Airports (aviation), Amateur Repeaters, Common Frequencies, Business (WTR), and Active Mil (this last one needs an active Active Mil subscription). Filter by category, search by name or frequency, and — for the Business dataset — adjust a distance radius around your saved postcode. Tick the ones you want (or select everything currently shown) and add them in one go; anything already in your list is skipped automatically rather than duplicated.

Editing and Removing Entries

Once added, a station’s name and mode can be edited directly in the grid — these save automatically the moment you commit the edit, no separate save button needed. The mode can be Auto, AM, NFM or WFM; Auto lets the engine decide per stop (see Auto Mode). Remove individual entries with their row’s Remove button, or use Clear to empty the whole current list at once (this one asks for confirmation, including how many entries you’re about to remove). Entries can’t currently be reordered — they stay in the order you added them.

Lists From the Map

A Scan these button in a map popup (an airfield, a transmitter site, a WTR company — see Tune, Track and Scan These) lands here as a list named Map: East Midlands (EGNX) or similar, with each entry’s own mode, and is scanned at once. It is temporary: shown with a “(temporary)” tag, kept in memory only, and replaced rather than duplicated if you click the same place again. Only the newest three temporary lists are kept.

To keep one with your saved lists, select it and click Keep — or answer Yes when you’re asked about each temporary list as the Connect window closes or you change profile (No lets it go). A kept list is an ordinary list from then on: edit it, tick it, delete it as you like.

Your lockouts apply to map lists exactly as to any other — Temp L/O and Lockout on the Now-Listening panel, and the Lockouts tab, lock a frequency out whichever list it’s in.

Single Frequencies Only

Scan Lists are built from individual station entries, not frequency ranges — every entry is an exact single frequency, by design. If you want to sweep a range as part of your scanning, use Scanner mode’s Frequency Range source or the Bands tab instead — Scan Lists aren’t intended to cover that case.
