SDS100E Menu Reference & Settings

Summary: A guide to the SDS100E’s main menu, the Display Options and the Settings menu.

Using the Menus

Press Menu (the button on the scanner’s left side). Menu paths in this manual are written as Menu, Main Menu Item, Sub Menu Item. Press Menu to go up one level and Avoid to leave the menu entirely.

The Main Menu

Set Scan Selection, Manage Full Database, Manage Favorites, Set Your Location, Select Service Types, Srch/CloCall Opt, Search For…, Close Call, Analyze, Discovery, Priority Scan, WX Operation, Tone-Out For, Display Options and Settings.

  • Set Scan Selection
  • Manage Quick Key Status – toggle Favorites List quick keys, or system quick keys within a list.
  • Set Nationwide Systems – enable or disable nationwide systems (similar to the service searches of older scanners).
  • Select Lists to Monitor – toggle the items for scanning; it doesn’t change the quick key status, and an item set to No can’t be turned on with quick keys.
  • Set All Lists Off / On.
  • Manage Full Database – Review Avoids, Stop All Avoiding, Information (last database update date).
  • Manage Favorites – see SDS100E Managing Favorites Lists & Location Control.

Display Options

Menu, Display Options:

  • Backlight Options – Set Mode (how the backlight behaves when squelch opens and/or a key is pressed), Set Dimmer (brightness, default 40%), Set Key Backlight (Enable turns the keys’ backlight on and off with the display; Disable keeps it always off) and Flash w/Backlight Off (the alert indicator blinks every 5 seconds when the display backlight is off, so you can tell the scanner is on).
  • Customize – see SDS100E Customising the Display.
  • Set ID Format – show Motorola/P25 talk group IDs in decimal or hex; a separate setting does the same for EDACS.
  • Set B/W or Color Mode – Color for the full-colour display, or Black with White Text or White with Black Text, which are easier to read in direct sunlight.

Settings

Menu, Settings:

  • Adjust Key Beep – rotate to set the key beep volume; Auto matches the current volume.
  • Set Clock – date, time, time zone and daylight saving.
  • Upgrade – enter a registration key for upgrade options (DMR, NXDN and EDACS ProVoice).
  • Battery Options – Set Battery Save and Set Battery Low.
  • Band Defaults – default modulation and step per band.
  • Auto Shutoff – how long the scanner runs before switching itself off; Off disables it.
  • Replay Options – Set Replay Duration and Review Recordings (play, delete or rename a session).
  • Restore Options – Clear User Data (deletes all Favorites Lists and user settings) or Reset User Settings (settings only; lists kept).
  • See Scanner Information – % Memory Used (remaining microSD capacity) and Firmware Version (version and electronic serial number).

Data Naming

You can name Favorites Lists, systems, sites, departments, channels, locations, custom searches, recording sessions, tone-outs and SAME groups with up to 64 characters. Turn the scroll control to choose a character, press the right soft key (>) or left soft key (<) to move the cursor, ./no to clear a character (twice clears all) and E/yes when finished.
