DJ-X100E Scanning: VFO Scans, Priority, Shift & Skip

Summary: The DJ-X100E’s VFO scan types, how to start them, the scan settings and how to skip unwanted frequencies.

Scan Types (VFO Mode)

  • All Scan – every frequency in the receive mode’s range at the current step (except FM radio).
  • MHz Scan – a set width upward from the current frequency: 0.25, 0.5, 1.0 (default), 1.5, 2.0, 3.0 or 5.0 MHz (choose in Set mode).
  • Program Scan – between a start and end frequency you register (50 program channels).
  • Link Scan – several program channels in succession.
  • Priority Scan – alternately checks a priority channel and the current frequency.
  • Shift Scan – alternately the current frequency and the shifted frequency (for example a repeater’s output and input).

Starting and Stopping

Press [SCAN] to start All Scan (or repeat the last scan). Press [SCAN] to stop. Hold [SCAN] to show the scan type selection screen, turn the dial and press [SET] or [SCAN]. While scanning: turn the dial clockwise for ascending and counter-clockwise for descending; hold [MONI] to pause; the scan resumes after a reboot. You can enter a two-digit Program Scan number while scanning to switch to that program scan.

Program Scan

  1. Press [FUNC] then [SCAN] (“PROG”) and choose a program channel (or “New”).
  2. Set the Start Frequency (default 30.000000 MHz), End Frequency (470.000000), mode and step (default FM 20.00k), communication settings, offset step and a scan name (28 characters).
  3. Choose Write, Yes.

Nothing is saved until you write. If you press [MONI] too many times you return to the PROG screen and lose your edits. The free PC editing software makes this much easier (see DJ-X100E PC Software, USB & Reset).

Link Scan

From the scan type screen choose Link Scan, choose a link number, then Add Link to pick program channels. They are scanned in numeric order, not the order you added them. Delete Link, Link Scan Name and Initialize are also offered; then Start Link Scan.

Priority Scan

Register the channel in memory channel 000 (it can’t be used as a normal memory). Then in the scan type screen choose Priority Scan, ON. The receiver checks channel 000 for 0.5 seconds every 5 seconds while receiving or scanning (interval settable). To stop, choose OFF (pressing [SCAN] doesn’t stop it).

Shift Scan

Needs a frequency shift to be set (see DJ-X100E Communication Settings (CONFIG)). Choose Shift Scan; SHIFT+ or SHIFT- blinks.

Skip

  • Normal skip: when a scan stops, press [SKIP] to register it (the skip icon shows). Saved when powered off. Up to 100 VFO scan skips (normal and time skips together). Cancel via [FUNC], then [SKIP], choose Skip Clear.
  • Time skip: when a scan stops, hold [SKIP] and choose one-time, 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 20, 30, 60 or 90 minutes. Cancelled when the power goes off (“one-time” cancels when scanning stops).
  • In Memory mode a skip is stored with the channel.
  • Set mode, Skip chooses whether Program Link, Bank and Bank Link scans use individual or common skip lists.

Scan Settings (Set Mode, Scan)

Scan Speed (100, 50 or 25 ch/s; 100 is fastest but may miss weak signals), Hold Timer (OFF = busy scan), Release Timer (5 seconds), Stop Freq, Manual Hold, Priority Inter (5 seconds), MHz Scan Width, Freq Shift Scan, MN Search (shows the memory name of a stopped frequency), VFO Scan, All Scan Set. See DJ-X100E Set Mode Reference.
