UBCD3600XLT Keys & Controls

Summary: What every key and control on the UBCD3600XLT does, including the Func key that gives most keys a second function.

How the Controls Work

The scanner has a keypad, a Scroll Control knob (used for Select, Volume and Squelch), a Func key and a Menu key. Pressing Func activates Function mode for 3 seconds, so a key pressed straight afterwards does its second function. Most keys act differently depending on the mode you’re in.

Power / Light / Lock

• Press and hold to turn the scanner on or off.
• Press to use the backlight.
• Func then this key locks or unlocks the keypad.

Scroll Control

• Press it, then turn it (within 10 seconds) to adjust the volume in Scan mode.
• Func then turn it to adjust the squelch.
• Press the Scroll Control, then Func, then the Scroll Control again to enter P25 Adjustment mode (see UBCD3600XLT GPS, Location Control & Digital Adjustment Mode).
• Press to select a menu item or save an entry.
• Turn to choose characters in Data Naming.
• Turn to change the Scan/Search direction, and to continue in Scan/Search.
• Turn to scroll through channels or frequencies in Hold mode; through Departments in Department Pause; through Systems in System Pause; through Sites in Site Pause; through custom search bands in Search Pause.
• Turn to move between recordings in Replay mode, to resume Close Call, to start a Quick Search from a Close Call hold, or to pick a tone-out in Tone-Out Standby.

Avoid

• Press to go back to the previous mode in Menu mode.
• Press to toggle the Avoid status of a channel or frequency while receiving or holding; of a system, department or site while in Pause.
• Press and hold to clear all system, site, department and channel avoids in the current system (in Scan Hold mode), or to clear search avoids (in Search Hold mode).
• Func + Avoid toggles the Close Call modes; Func + press and hold Avoid enables Close Call Only.

List / Services

• Press to select the lists to monitor. Func + List selects service types.

System

• Func + System starts Scan mode (or exits a mode).
• Press to enter System Pause for 2 seconds and then hold on a system. Double-press for a hold without the pause; double-press again to release.
• In Search mode, press to enter Search Pause for 2 seconds and hold on a search; double-press for a Search Hold; press to release.

Department

• Press to enter Department Pause for 2 seconds and hold on a department. Double-press for a hold without the pause; double-press again to release.
• Func + Department holds or releases a Site in Scan mode.

Channel

• Press to hold or release a channel, frequency, Close Call hit or tone-out.
• Func + Channel toggles the modulation for a channel, site or search in Hold modes.
• Press to pause in Replay mode.

Menu

• Press for the Menu; press again to go back a level.
• Func + Menu opens the Search menu (in Search mode), the Close Call menu (in Close Call) or the Tone-Out menu (in Tone-Out).

Replay / Record

• Press to replay the most recent transmissions. Func + Replay starts or stops recording. Press and hold to review recordings.

Number Keys

• Select Favorites Lists in Scan mode; direct entry in Hold mode.
• In Custom Search, toggle custom search bands on or off. In Close Call, keys 0-6 toggle Close Call bands.
• Func + 1, 2 or 3 starts the Search Key assigned to it, from a Hold mode.
• 4 (<ATT) moves the cursor left when editing text. Func + 4 toggles attenuation for the channel, search or Close Call band in Hold mode; Func + press and hold 4 toggles global attenuation.
• 6 (>) moves the cursor right when editing text. Func + press and hold 6 enters Weather Scan.
• Func + 7 (IFX) toggles intermediate frequency exchange in Hold modes.
• Func + press and hold 8 (REV) shows a repeater’s reverse frequency in Search mode.
• Func + 9 (DISP) toggles the 3-line display in Scan Hold mode.
• Func + 0 (LVL) toggles the volume offset for a channel in Scan Hold mode.

./no / PRI

• Enters a decimal point when typing a frequency.
• Deletes a character in Data Naming or Direct Entry (press twice to delete everything).
• Cancels a Confirm? prompt. Press twice for a hyphen in an ID, once for the “i” of an I-Call ID.
• Func + ./no toggles the Priority modes in Scan mode.

E / yes / Q.SRCH

• Selects a menu item or saves an entry.
• Stores a blinking CTCSS/DCS/NAC tone in Scan mode, and stores an ID in ID Search.
• Opens the Advanced Channel Menu in Hold or Receive modes.
• Quick-stores a frequency in Search modes.
• Func + E/yes starts Quick Search, or toggles ID Search on and off while scanning a trunked system in a Favorites List.
• Stores found tones in Tone-Out Search, and selects the current Tone-Out menu in Tone-Out mode.
