BCD436HP/536HP Entering IDs & Status Bits

Summary: Reference for entering trunked IDs on each system type, and how Motorola Type II status bits change the talkgroup numbers you see.

Accepted ID Formats

Partial IDs receive every ID in a fleet, sub-fleet, agency or block, and can also be avoided. Press ./no twice for a hyphen; once for an “i” (I-Call).

  • Motorola Type I – BFF-SS (block, fleet, sub-fleet), BFFF-S for fleets 100-127, partial IDs BFF-, BFFF-, B-, and NNNNN / iNNNNN for size code 0.
  • Motorola Type II – decimal NNNNN or iNNNNN; hexadecimal HHHH or iHHHH.
  • P25 – decimal NNNNN or iNNNNNNNN; hexadecimal HHHH or iHHHHHH.
  • EDACS – direct entry is AFS only (except I-Call): AA-FFS, partial AA-FF-, AA-; decimal NNNN or iNNNNN.
  • LTR – A-RR-UUU (area, home repeater, user); partial A-RR (not with decimal formats). To type one: area code (0 or 1), ./no twice, home repeater (01-20), ./no once, user ID (1-254).
  • I-Call – ./no once, then the ID; for a wildcard I-Call, ./no once then 0.
  • Hex IDs – use the same character selection as Data Naming.

Motorola Type II Status Bits

Type II Smartnet systems use status bits for special transmissions (emergencies, patches, DES/DVP scrambled transmissions, multiselects). Motorola radios interpret these themselves, but the scanner sees them as different talkgroups (ID plus the number):

  • +0 normal, +1 All, +2 emergency, +3 patch, +4 emergency patch, +5 emergency multi-group, +6 unassigned, +7 multi-select (dispatcher-initiated)
  • +8 to +15 – the same for DES/DVP encrypted talkgroups

Examples: if a user on talkgroup 16 presses their emergency button, everything on that talkgroup moves to the emergency status talkgroup (ID+2, so 18) until the dispatcher clears it. If fire dispatch on 1616 sends tone-outs and alarms as multi-selects (ID+7), they arrive on 1623. A multi-select call on 1808 is received on 1815.

The system option Set Status Bit controls how the scanner handles them – see BCD436HP/536HP Programming Systems & System Options.
