SDS200E Scanning: Quick Keys, Startup Keys, Scan Order & Priority

Summary: How the SDS200E decides what to scan and in what order, and how to use Quick Keys, Startup Keys, Number Tags and priority.

Quick Keys

Quick Keys turn Favorites Lists, systems, and departments and sites on and off while scanning. There are three levels:

  • Favorites List Quick Keys (FLQK) – 00-99, one per list (each can be used once). Like the bank keys of older scanners.
  • System Quick Keys (SQK) – 00-99, for conventional and trunked systems. You can reuse the same SQK for several systems.
  • Department/Site Quick Keys (DQK) – 00-99, for departments and sites. Reusable.

To enable or disable while scanning, enter all or part of FF.SS.DD and press E:

  • 10 E – toggle FLQK 10
  • 10.03 E – toggle SQK 03 in FLQK 10
  • 10.03.02 E – toggle DQK 02 in SQK 03 in FLQK 10
  • .03 E – toggle SQK 03 in the currently scanned list
  • ..04 E – toggle DQK 04 in the currently scanned system

A toggle only affects the quick key within that hierarchy; the same SQK under a different list is unaffected.

Search Keys, Startup Keys, Number Tags

  • Search Keys: assign a search function to keys 1, 2 and 3 under Search for…, Set Search Key. Hold on a channel, then press Func + 1, 2 or 3.
  • Startup Keys: assign 0-9 to a Favorites List; hold the number while powering on and lists with a matching key are enabled, non-matching disabled, and lists with none unaffected. Systems aren’t affected.
  • Number Tags: 0-99 for lists and systems, 0-999 for channels. Hold on any channel, enter the tag as FF.SS.CC and press Channel (soft key 3).

Scan Order

You choose what to scan with quick keys, not banks. The scanner doesn’t scan all the systems in one list and then the next.

  1. For each list with a quick key, starting from 0, it scans each SQK 0 in FLQK order and then the next set of SQKs: FLQK 0/SQK 0; FLQK 1/SQK 0; … FLQK 99/SQK 99. Department and site quick keys are scanned with each system.
  2. Systems with the same quick key are scanned in creation order.
  3. The database is scanned next, then systems with no quick key (including Quick Save systems), in creation order. Conventional channels and departments are also scanned in creation order.
  4. Trunked IDs aren’t really scanned: the scanner watches for activity and shows all IDs when ID Search is on, only programmed IDs when off.
  5. Then Custom Searches enabled for Search with Scan (Close Call Hits last), and then the Close Call Hits with Scan system if it isn’t avoided and has frequencies.

The scanner stays in a system for its System Hold Time.

Scanning Checklist

  1. Enable at least one Favorites List or the Full Database in Select Lists to Monitor.
  2. Lists or systems with quick keys must be enabled with quick keys or Manage Quick Key Status.
  3. Service types used by channels must be on.
  4. You must set your location to an area that has channels to scan, or set one or more Favorites Lists to not use Location Control.

Priority Scanning

  • Priority Scan interrupts conventional scanning at the interval you set to check priority channels; the more priority channels, the longer the interruption. The list and system must be enabled and not avoided, or you’ll see Priority Scan No Channel.
  • Priority DND only checks when no other conventional channel is being received.
  • Priority ID Scan works between transmissions, on the control channel and during the channel delay, only within the trunked system being scanned. Turn it on for each system.
  • Preemptive Priority ID Scanning: on Motorola systems with channel priority active, if you flag a TGID as priority and the system also marks it as priority, the scanner preempts the current transmission.

Highest priority goes to channels in system quick key 0; lowest to 99. Toggle with Func then ./no, or use Menu, Priority Scan: Set Priority (Off, Priority DND, Priority Scan), Set Interval (default 2 seconds) and Max Channels / Pri Scan (1-100). Priority is always on for a trunked system if enabled.
