Backups – How Squawker PC Protects Your Existing Programming

For most supported radios, Squawker PC backs up your scanner’s current programming automatically before writing anything new — genuinely reading it live from the radio first, not just relying on what’s in the app.

Automatic Backup

This is on by default for the Uniden family (UBC125XLT/C, BCT15X, UBC3500XLT, UBC800XLT, BCD160DN, BCD260DN) and the BCD436HP/BCD536HP/UBCD3600XLT/SDS100/SDS200 family. Before writing, Squawker PC reads your scanner’s current programming, saves it as an encrypted backup file, and only then proceeds.

For the SDS100/SDS200/UBCD3600XLT family specifically, if that automatic backup fails for any reason, programming is stopped and does not proceed — you won’t end up writing new data without a safety copy of the old data first.

ICOM IC-R15

The IC-R15 uses a different, SD-card-based programming method, but it follows the same principle: before replacing the file on the SD card, Squawker PC automatically saves a backup of your current setup — nothing extra for you to do.

Managing Your Backups

Whether created automatically or manually, backups are saved per profile and can be browsed, restored, or deleted from within the Programmer — there’s no need to go digging through files manually. If something goes wrong after programming, check here first before assuming your old setup is lost.
