AR-DV1 Controls, Keys & Display

Summary: What each control on the AR-DV1 does and what the display symbols mean.

Front Panel Controls

  • VOL/POWER knob: push to switch on (about eight seconds to start), push and hold about two seconds to switch off, turn for volume. Don’t switch on with earphones connected, since there can be a click at high volume.
  • SQL/DISP knob: turn to set squelch. Push to show the level for two seconds; push and hold for two seconds to choose the squelch type (AUTO, LSQ or NSQ).
  • Dial: tunes the frequency, selects menu values and changes search/scan direction. [UP]/[DOWN] keys step the frequency and move through menu items.
  • PHONE jack: 3.5 mm; the internal speaker is disabled when plugged.
  • SD card slot on the front panel.

Keys

  • [F] – the function key. Press it, then a key, to use the second function printed above the key. Press [F] again to cancel.
  • [LOCK] – hold two seconds to lock or unlock the keys (volume and squelch still work).
  • [MONI] – hold to open the squelch (and show the offset frequency when offset is on).
  • [VFO] – toggles VFO-A and VFO-B; hold two seconds for VFO search; returns to VFO mode from other modes.
  • [SRCH] – starts program search. [SCAN] – memory read and scan.
  • [0]-[9], [.] – numeric entry; [ENT] confirms, and in VFO mode moves to VFO-Z; hold [ENT] to store a frequency to memory.
  • [PASS] – passes (skips) frequencies and channels; [MODE] – receive mode (hold for digital auto mode); [CLR] – cancels.
  • SD key – starts and stops recording; with [F] opens the SD card menu.

Second Functions (press [F] first)

  • [1] tone/code squelch (hold for voice squelch); [2] frequency step; [3] clock and alarm/timer; [4] priority on/off (hold to set); [5] AGC and RF gain; [6] program search bank; [7] configuration menu; [8] data editor; [9] option menu (NR, notch, digital decode); [0] sleep timer.
  • [.] offset; [MODE] IF bandwidth; [SRCH] search group; [SCAN] scan group; [PASS] VFO copy or delete pass frequencies; [CLR] delete the current bank or channel; [VFO] hold VFO search settings.
  • [F] then push the volume knob saves the current state to the last-channel memory.

Display

The LCD shows: function status (F), recording (R), playback (P), sleep (S), alarm (A), timer recording (T), the clock, the VFO/mode line (VFO, MEM, SCN, SER), the receive mode with IF bandwidth (for example FM 15) and, in digital modes, the decoded mode (ALIN, P-25, dPMR, D-CR, DMR, YAES, DSTR; DA means digital auto). Also shown are the frequency step, VFO-A and VFO-B frequencies, a B for busy, the S-meter, squelch type and level (NSQ, LSQ, with (A) for auto), and indicators for CTC/RTN/DCS, voice inversion, NR, AGC (AGCF/M/S or RF-G), notch, key lock, priority, offset, pass, delay hold and free time, PC remote mode and the SD card. There’s no attenuator icon: the attenuator is automatic.

Rear Panel

  • Antenna: BNC, 50 ohm.
  • AUX output: 3.5 mm mono discriminator output (FM 6 or 15 kHz bandwidth only).
  • External speaker: 3.5 mm mono; disables the internal speaker.
  • DC 12 V input. Use a regulated, non-switching 12 V 1 A supply. A micro-USB port is on the unit for control.
