TRX-2E Objects, Scanlists & Scan Sets

Summary: How the TRX-2E organises what it scans: objects, scanlists and scan sets.

Scannable Objects

A scannable object is any defined item that can be scanned or monitored: a conventional (non-trunked) radio frequency, a talkgroup on a trunked system, a radio service, or a defined search. Because every object is defined by the same basic elements, once you know how to program one kind you can program the others. The object types you’ll meet are:

  • CONV – a conventional frequency.
  • TSYS – a trunked system: its type, its control-channel or voice frequencies, and its sites.
  • TGRP – a talkgroup on a trunked system. A trunked system can’t itself be scanned; you scan the talkgroup objects that belong to it.

Scanlists

Objects are grouped into scanlists. There are 200 scanlists, and you can rename them, switch them on or off, and use them to keep things separate, for example airband, marine, amateur repeaters and PMR446. The guide’s own example scan display shows scanlists named U/VHF AM, VHF Mar, CB Radio, Amateur Repeaters and PMR446.

  • New objects go into the default scanlist until you assign them elsewhere (see TRX-2E Programming Conventional Channels & Editing Objects).
  • Scanlists are ticked in the Scanlists item on the Main Menu to include them in scanning.
  • While scanning you can toggle scanlists with the number keys (see TRX-2E Keypad, Rotary Encoder & Controls).

Scan Sets

There are 20 scan sets that work with scanlists, so you can switch a whole group of scanlists on or off at once. Each scan set holds all 200 normal scanlists. The scanner starts with Scan Set 01 on and every scanlist allowed, so the individual scanlist ticks decide what is scanned. If the scanner says Nothing to Scan! although you have objects stored, check that you haven’t unticked Scan Set 01.

The guide’s example: put City 1 in scanlists 01-30, City 2 in 31-50 and City 3 in 51-62, then use scan sets to switch between the three groups rather than toggling scanlists one at a time. This works well for a home area and a holiday area. The Scan Sets Opt setting turns the feature on (see TRX-2E V-Scanner Storage & Global Settings).
