BCD436HP/536HP Holding, Avoids, Number Tags & Scan-Mode Tools

Summary: Everyday tools while scanning: holding, avoiding, attenuation, modulation, IFX, replay and recording, and Number Tag navigation.

Holding

• Channel Hold – press Channel; scroll to move; press Channel to release.
• Department Hold – press Dept to pause and hold; double-press for no pause; double-press to release.
• Site Hold – Func + Dept; again to release. Press Dept then rotate the scroll control to choose a site.
• System Hold – press System; double-press for no pause; double-press to release.

Avoiding

Avoids apply to every system in the list. Temporary avoids cancel at power cycle.

• Channel: Avoid once (temporary), twice (permanent).
• Department: Dept then Avoid once/twice.
• Site: in Site Hold, Dept then quickly Avoid once/twice. To stop avoiding, Dept then Avoid once.
• System: System then Avoid once/twice.

Review avoids: Database (Menu, Manage Full Database), Favorites List (Menu, Manage Favorites, the list), or ID avoids (system options). Clear all avoids for a site or department: hold on a system and press and hold Avoid.

Other Tools

• ID Scan / ID Search: Func + E/yes while scanning a trunked system. ID Search isn’t available with the database.
• Service types: BCD536HP Serv; BCD436HP Func + Zip/Services.
• Change location or range: BCD536HP Zip / Rang; BCD436HP Zip/Services or the Set Range menu.
• Direct entry: hold on a channel, enter the frequency or TGID, E/yes, Channel to release.
• Attenuation: Func + 4 (channel); Func + press and hold 4 (global; ATT blinks).
• Modulation: conventional – hold, Func + Channel (MOD), release. Site – Func + Dept then hold on a channel and toggle.
• IFX: hold, Func + 7.
• Repeater frequency: hold, Func + press and hold 8 (REV).
• Volume offset: hold, Func + 0 (LVL).

Replay and Recording

• Replay: press Replay; Channel pauses; turn the scroll control to choose recordings. Replay isn’t available while recording is enabled.
• Record: Func + Replay; resets to Off at power-off. Manage recordings under Settings, Replay Options, Review Recordings.

The Advanced Channel Menu

With a channel displayed press E/yes: Edit Current Channel, Add to Favorites List, Save Sub Audio/P25 NAC (a blinking CTCSS, DCS or NAC), Save Talk Group ID (an unknown ID found with ID Search; choose or create a department), Save Unit ID. Afterwards you reach Channel Options; press Avoid to return to scanning.

Number Tags

Lists that share a tag are selected in sequence; the same applies to systems and channels. The tag shows in Scan Hold mode on the BCD436HP; on the BCD536HP press Func in Scan Hold. To go to one: hold on a channel, enter the list tag, ./no, the system tag, ./no, the channel tag, and press Channel (leading zeros aren’t needed). 1.01.36 – channel 36 in system 01 in list 1; .01.36 – in the current list; ..36 – in the current system.

Shortcuts to Other Modes

• Close Call modes: BCD536HP – press SQ; BCD436HP – hold on a channel, Func + Avoid.
• Close Call Only: BCD536HP – press and hold SQ; BCD436HP – Func + press and hold Avoid.
• Priority: Func + ./no. Weather Alert Priority: hold on a channel, Func + 6 (WX). Weather Scan: Func + press and hold 6.
• Search Keys: hold, then Func + 1, 2 or 3.
• Tone-Out: BCD536HP – Func + SQ; BCD436HP – assign it to a Search Key.
• Quick Search: Func + E/yes.
