AR-DV1 AGC, RF Gain, Noise Reduction & Notch

Summary: The AR-DV1’s gain and noise-fighting features.

AGC

Available in AM, SAH, SAL, USB, LSB and CW. Press [F] then [5], turn the dial and press [ENT]: AGCF (fast, usually for CW), AGCM (medium, AM) or AGCS (slow, SSB). It can’t be configured in FM.

RF Gain

To take manual control, press [F] then [5] and choose RF-G; then turn the squelch knob to change the gain. Repeat the steps to cancel. Lowering the gain can help with SSB or CW. Manual RF gain isn’t available while AGC is active.

Attenuator

The AR-DV1 has an automatic attenuator. It works without a setting, and no icon shows on the display, but the S-meter reflects the attenuation.

Noise Reduction and Auto Notch

Press [F] then [9] for the option menu. NR (noise reduction, for random noise) and NOTCH (auto notch, for beat tones and tuning signals) each take OFF, LOW, MID or HIGH (default OFF). NR works in AM, SAH, SAL, USB, LSB and CW.

Voice Squelch

Press [F] then hold [1]. Turn it on or off, set a DELAY (default 2.0 s) and a LEVEL (1-7 or OFF, default 4). It mutes non-voice signals.

Noise and Level Squelch

Hold the SQL knob for two seconds and choose NSQ (noise squelch, FM), LSQ (level squelch) or AUTO (LSQ for all AM modes and NSQ for FM). Press [ENT] to confirm.
