IC-R20 IC Recorder

Summary: How to record received audio on the IC-R20’s built-in IC recorder, play it back, and manage recordings.

About the Recorder

The IC recorder holds up to 32 tracks with a maximum recording length of about 260 minutes. Recordings are stored in the receiver, not on a card.

Recording

  • Push [REC] briefly to start (the red LED lights). Push it again to pause (the LED blinks) or push [STOP/PLAY] to stop.
  • A rest-of-recording-time bar appears while recording.

Quality (record set mode): hold [REC] for 1 second, choose QUALITY, and select:

  • LONG TIME – low quality, about 260 minutes
  • NORMAL – about 130 minutes
  • FINE – high quality, about 65 minutes

Automatic recording (REC REMOTE): in the record set mode choose REC REMOTE and turn it ON: the receiver records when a signal appears and pauses when it disappears, ideal for intermittent signals. Set the squelch to just closed when no signal is present, otherwise recording won’t pause.

Track limit: when the 32nd track has been recorded, recording isn’t available even if time remains. Delete all recordings or transfer them to a PC.

Playback

  1. Push [REWIND/ATT] or [FAST FORWARD/RF GAIN] to choose the track (the number shows).
  2. Push [STOP/PLAY] to play. While playing, push and hold [REWIND/ATT] to rewind or [FAST FORWARD/RF GAIN] to fast forward.
  3. Push [STOP/PLAY] to stop. Playback stops automatically at the end of the track.

Playback speed: hold [STOP/PLAY] for 1 second and choose x0.50, x0.75, x1.00 (default), x1.25 or x1.50.

Deleting

In the record set mode, ALL DELETE, then YES. The receiver can only delete every track at once, not one at a time. The optional CS-R20 software can save the recordings to a PC and delete or edit them individually, but it can’t play them back: recordings can be played on the IC-R20 only.
