DJ-X100E Tuning: VFO Mode, Frequency Steps & Offset Step

Summary: How to tune the DJ-X100E in VFO mode: the operation modes, frequency steps, MHz steps and the offset step.

The Five Operation Modes

VFO mode, VFO scan mode, Memory mode, Memory scan mode and FM radio mode. Switch with short presses of [MODE], [V/M] and [SCAN] (in FM radio mode also [STEP]), and long presses to enter scan or radio modes.

Frequency Step

Push [STEP], turn the dial and push [SET] or [STEP]. Steps: 1, 3.125, 5, 6.25, 8.33, 10, 12.5, 15, 20, 25, 30, 50, 100, 125 and 200 kHz. Use 8.33 kHz for UK airband. The DJ-X100E has no auto step or auto mode, and Alinco gives no band plan information, so you choose the step and mode yourself. The step is used by dial tuning and VFO scans.

1 MHz Steps

Press [FUNC] until <FUNC> lights, press [STEP], turn the dial to change the blinking MHz digit, and press [MONI] to confirm. Depending on the step, it may not move in exact MHz steps, and passing through 76-108 MHz (FM radio) or unreceivable frequencies rounds the kHz digits.

10-Fold Steps

Press [FUNC] and turn the dial: the frequency changes by 10 times the step (10 kHz becomes 100 kHz). Press [FUNC] again to confirm (or it confirms after the FUNC hold time).

Offset Step

Adds half a step to the receiving frequency, so you don’t have to switch step sizes. Example: VHF commercial bands with a 20 kHz step are even (147.940, 147.960, 147.980) up to 147.980, then odd from 148.010. Hold [STEP] to turn it on (“OFFSET STEP” shows) and again to turn it off. It can also be stored per memory channel. Default OFF.

Restricted Ranges

The 76-108 MHz FM broadcast band isn’t part of the VFO range, so scans don’t stop the radio. In VFO mode, turning the dial above 76 MHz jumps to 108 MHz. See DJ-X100E FM Radio Mode.
