Backing Up & Restoring

Summary: The two ways Squawker PC backs up your IC-R15 data, and how to restore one.

Backup Current Data

Click Backup Current Data… at any time to save whatever’s currently in the editor as a named backup (or accept the auto-generated timestamped name) – this backs up what’s in Squawker PC right now, not necessarily whatever’s currently on the SD card. If a backup with that name already exists, you’ll be asked whether to overwrite it.

Auto Backup Before Replacing

Since the IC-R15 doesn’t have a live “write to scanner” step to protect, the Auto backup before replacing checkbox (on by default) instead protects the one genuinely destructive action in this Programmer: Replace Selected File, which overwrites an existing CSV on the SD card. With this switched on, Squawker PC silently saves a backup of the current data immediately before the replace happens – and if that backup itself fails for any reason, the replace is cancelled rather than risking your existing data.

Restoring

Pick a backup from the Available Backups list and click Load Selected Backup – you’ll be asked to confirm, since this replaces everything currently in the editor. Restoring only affects what’s shown in Squawker PC; it doesn’t touch your SD card on its own, so if you want a restored backup back on the card and in your scanner, you’ll still need to export/replace it as covered in Saving to Your SD Card & Loading It Onto Your Scanner.

Delete Selected Backup removes one permanently, after confirming – and Open Backup Folder takes you straight to where they’re stored, if you’d rather manage them in Explorer.
