DJ-X100E Battery, Charging & Power

Summary: How to power and charge the DJ-X100E: the Li-ion pack, the optional AA battery case, USB charging, the charging stand and the power settings.

Fitting and Removing the Battery Pack

Align the pack with the tabs on the main unit and push it in until it locks; the locking lever may feel stiff because of the waterproof design, so make sure it’s securely fixed and the seal is free of dust. To remove, slide the lock lever at the bottom (1) and lift the pack (2). Don’t touch or put labels over the two circular indentations above the nameplate on the back; they keep the case waterproof.

Optional Dry Cell Battery Case (EDH-46)

Fitted the same way; holds three AA alkaline batteries. Use alkaline only: manganese cells, rechargeable nickel-metal hydride and low-quality cells give shorter running time or malfunctions, and never use disposable lithium AA cells (high starting voltage). The EDH-46 is not waterproof or dustproof and using it voids the waterproof warranty.

Estimated Battery Life

Under the manual’s conditions (receive 6 seconds, standby 54 seconds, Battery Save on): battery pack / dry cell case: GPS and FM radio off 16 h / 7 h; GPS on 13 h / 6 h; FM radio on 12 h / 5 h.

Battery Save is OFF by default because digital and data reception need it off. Turn it on for analogue listening (Set mode, Power, Battery Save) or run time drops by about 30%. There’s no icon for it, but you can check under Device Information (hold [MONI] while switching on).

Charging

Turn the receiver off to charge fully. Charge at 10 to 40 C; the pack ships partly charged, so charge it fully before first use.

  • USB: open the USB port cap, connect the supplied Type-C cable and the supplied USB adapter and plug it in. It takes about 5 hours from empty. The receiver can be used while charging. A PC or portable battery can charge it but more slowly and perhaps not fully. It may take up to 2 seconds for the charging icon to appear.
  • Charging stand (EDC-325T optional) with the EDC-330 AC adapter: about 3.5 hours. The lamp is red while charging and green when finished (flashes red/green outside 10-40 C). A timer stops charging after about 6 hours, and charging while receiving isn’t recommended.
  • Keep the USB port’s rubber cap closed each time; it’s part of the waterproofing.
  • Remove the battery pack once full if you’ll use USB power for a long time, since constant USB use ages the battery. The receiver can run from USB without a pack, but keep metal away from the terminals.

Battery Icon

Five levels: enough, decreased a little, decreased (recommend charging), almost empty (recommend changing), and flashing empty (charge or replace immediately). While charging the empty icon and the current status alternate; when charging completes the icon becomes a USB mark, then the display goes blank. Set mode, Status, Power Status shows the power route, charge state and battery voltage and type (LI-ION or DRY-CELL).

USB Power Settings (Set Mode, Power)

  • USB Power Supply (ON) and USB Charge (ON). Turn USB Power Supply OFF to stop the receiver drawing power from a laptop while using the PC software. Turn USB Charge OFF to stop charging when you use the stand: the receiver is then only powered, not charged. Set them back to ON for normal charging.
  • If you turned USB supply off, start the receiver from a battery first and unplug the USB cable before switching it off. If it won’t start because of these settings, plug in USB while holding [FUNC] and [SCAN] together.

Battery Care

The pack is a consumable: 300-500 charge cycles; replace it within about 3 years and no later than 5. Don’t leave it in a hot car, avoid short circuits (carry each pack in a dry nylon bag), and don’t store it fully charged or flat. The radio draws a small current even when off, so remove the pack when not in use. See DJ-X100E Safety, Precautions & Compliance.
