How can we help?

Writing to Your Scanner

Once your banks are set up the way you want, click Send to Scanner (or Start Programming) to write everything to the radio.

Confirmation

You’ll always see a confirmation prompt before anything is written — the wording changes depending on your backup setting. If automatic backup is switched on (the default), it confirms that your existing data will be backed up first before being overwritten. If you’ve turned automatic backup off, the warning is stronger, since nothing is protecting your existing data in that scenario.

While It’s Running

A progress indicator shows what’s happening — entering program mode, writing each bank and channel, then exiting program mode — so you can see it’s actively working rather than just waiting.

There’s No Cancel Button

Once you click Send to Scanner, there’s no button to stop it partway through — the interface locks with an “operation in progress” message until the write finishes on its own. If you close the Programmer window while a write is running, you’ll see a warning that closing now may leave the scanner in an incomplete state — but confirming that just closes the window, it doesn’t cleanly stop the write already underway. If you’re ever unsure what state your scanner’s in afterward, restore from your backup rather than trying to guess.

If the Connection Drops

Squawker PC will try to cleanly exit program mode if something goes wrong mid-write, but this is a best-effort attempt, not a guarantee — a genuine mid-write disconnection could leave the radio in an inconsistent state. This is exactly why the automatic backup matters: if a write is interrupted and something looks wrong afterward, restore from your backup rather than trying to guess what state the radio is in.
