TRX-1 Scanning, Monitoring, Skip, Lockout & Priority

Summary: How to monitor a single object, scan your scanlists, skip and lock out objects and use priority on the TRX-1.

Monitoring and Scanning

  • Monitoring – listening to a single object.
  • Scanning – checking your saved objects and stopping when a transmission is detected.

To monitor: Main Menu, Browse Objects, press right, browse the scanlists and objects with the direction keys, and press Play/Pause/SEL to monitor the displayed one. Press up/down for another object or SEL to begin scanning.

To scan your active scanlists: press MENU, choose Scan and press right or SEL. Press SEL when the scanner stops on a transmission to pause, and again to resume.

To switch scanlists on or off while scanning use the number keys (see TRX-1 Keypad, Controls & Turning On).

Skip and Lockout

A skipped object is ignored during the current scan; a locked-out object is ignored in every scan until you unlock it.

  • Skip: when the scanner stops on a transmission press SKIP. An S appears. To skip a specific object, browse to it and press SKIP. To restore it, browse to it and press SKIP again. Restore Skipped in the Main Menu restores every skipped object.
  • Lockout: browse objects, press MENU, choose Locked Out and press right. A tick means locked out; an L shows in the display.
  • The SKIP key can be programmed to lock out instead of skipping (the first item in the Expert section of Global Settings).
  • The skip/lockout list holds 250 entries; if it’s full you get an error beep.

Priority

Priority is for when you want normal scanning interrupted to hear a particular object.

  1. Browse to the object and press MENU, then choose Priority and press right (tick = on).
  2. Priority Mode must be enabled in Global Settings. Priority Time sets the time between priority checks.

PRI toggles priority on the selected or active object and Fn + PRI switches Priority Mode on or off while scanning. Setting any object as priority can cause normal scanning to be interrupted.

Attenuator, Delay and AGC

  • ATT cycles per-object, global and global-on attenuation. Try with and without it: it helps against overload from strong nearby transmitters and hurts weak signals.
  • Delay makes the scanner wait two seconds after a transmission ends before scanning on.
  • AGC on conventional objects reduces interference from strong local transmitters (global AGC is also in Global Settings).

Organising Scanlists

Consider organising scanlists geographically, or by trunked system (put the talkgroups of each system in separate scanlists). Rename a scanlist from Scanlists in the Main Menu: press right, choose it, use left/right to move the cursor, up/down to change the character and SKIP to delete one.
