UBCD3600XLT Close Call

Summary: How Close Call detects strong nearby transmitters on the UBCD3600XLT, its modes and bands, and how to configure and use it.

What It Does

Close Call detects, alerts you to and displays the frequency of a nearby strong transmission. It can check for a hit every 2 seconds in the background while you scan, search or listen to weather, or you can use Close Call Only mode. Do-Not-Disturb only checks when you’re not receiving a transmission. Close Call doesn’t operate in Weather Scan or Tone-Out.

It works best for finding strong local transmitters such as mobile and handheld two-way radios where there are no other strong sources. Performance improves with higher transmit power, a receive antenna tuned to the target band, and a low background RF level. It may not show the right frequency for a transmitter using a highly directional antenna (such as an amateur beam), or when many transmitters are active at once in the same area.

The Close Call Menu

Menu, Close Call:

  • Close Call Only – stops other scanning; you can also start it with Func + press and hold Avoid.
  • Hits with Scan – a special system holding the last 10 Close Call hits. It’s accessible only from the Close Call menu and must be unavoided to be scanned (its default is Permanent Avoid). It’s emptied when you turn the power off. You can set Set Avoid and Set Hold Time (0-255 seconds).
  • Set CC Mode – Off, CC DND (checks every two seconds when not receiving), or CC Priority (checks every two seconds regardless).
  • Set CC Bands – choose the bands to search (below).
  • Set CC Alert – Set Alert Tone (Alert 1-9 or Off), Set Level, Set Alert Light (colour and pattern), and Set CC Pause (3, 5, 10, 15, 30, 45, 60 seconds, or Infinite).
