Filling a Bank — The Data Dropdown, Categories & the Overwrite Prompt
he Data dropdown at the top of Bank Actions isn’t just “Currently Selected” — it also lists every category from the app’s Common Frequencies data, so you can fill a bank straight from a category without ever going near the main window. Both work the same way: pick a source, then click Program Bank.
Currently Selected — What It Actually Pulls
This follows the same priority rule used everywhere else in Squawker PC:
- If your Multi-Select list has anything in it, the whole list is used.
- Otherwise, whatever’s currently ticked in the main grid is used.
- Otherwise, whatever single row you last clicked is used as a fallback.
It’s a Live Pull, Not a Snapshot
Here’s the part worth understanding clearly: picking “Currently Selected” in the dropdown does nothing by itself — nothing is pulled until you click Program Bank. (There’s no separate “Overwrite”/”Add to Bank” button — if the target bank already has data, Program Bank itself prompts you to choose Overwrite, Add To, or Next Empty at that point.) Each time you click Program Bank, it re-reads whatever’s currently selected on the main window at that exact moment — it isn’t tied to when you picked the dropdown item, and it doesn’t cache an old selection.
Practically, this means: if you click Program Bank, then go back to the main window and change your selection, you don’t need to touch the dropdown again — just click Program Bank a second time and it’ll pick up your new selection fresh.
Works From Any Dataset
You don’t need to be on the Aviation VHF/UHF dataset on the main window for this to work — your selection is pulled regardless of which dataset you were browsing when you made it. Squawker PC automatically filters out anything the UBC125XLT/C can’t actually receive (it only handles AM/NFM/FM), so incompatible entries won’t make it into the bank even if they were part of your selection.
The Built-In Categories
Below “Currently Selected,” the dropdown lists every category currently in Squawker PC’s Common Frequencies data — for example: Baofeng, CB CEPT (Mid D), CB Import, CB UK, Fireground, FRS, GMRS, Ham 10m, Ham 2m, Ham 4m, Ham 6m, Ham 70cm, ISS, LPD433, Marine UHF, Marine VHF, Mountain Rescue, Outside Broadcast, PMR 446 Analogue, Polycon, Simple Site, Simple UK Light, and Suppliers Light. This list is genuinely pulled from the database rather than fixed in the app, so it reflects whatever categories actually exist at the time — digital/DMR PMR categories are automatically left out here too, since the UBC125XLT/C can’t receive them.
Picking one of these and clicking Program Bank works differently to “Currently Selected”: it loads every frequency tagged with that category, with no distance or location filtering at all — unlike “Currently Selected,” which only pulls what you’ve actually selected on the main window (and which may itself already be location-filtered if that’s how you built your selection there).
The Overwrite / Add To / Next Empty Bank Prompt
Whichever source you use — Currently Selected or a named category — if the bank you’re filling already has data, Program Bank stops and asks what to do:
Cancel — backs out without changing anything. were part of your selection.
Overwrite — clears the bank completely, then fills it fresh from your chosen source.
Add To — keeps every existing channel in the bank and only fills the empty slots, compacting gaps first so new channels fill in cleanly. This option is only offered when everything from your source will actually fit in the empty space available — if your source has more entries than there’s room for, Add To simply isn’t shown as a choice, so you won’t end up with some channels silently missing.
Next Empty Bank — leaves the current bank untouched and instead searches forward through your banks (1→2→3…9→0, wrapping back to 1) for the next one that’s completely empty, then fills that one instead. If none of your 10 banks are completely empty, you’ll get a warning and nothing is written — it won’t fall back to overwriting anything on its own.
