Writing to Your Scanner – Mass Storage Mode
Summary: What happens when you click Send to Scanner, the model-mismatch check, and two important limitations to know before you rely on this for anything you can’t afford to lose.
Once your Favorites Lists are set up the way you want, click Send to Scanner to write everything to the radio.
Confirmation & the Model-Mismatch Check
You’ll see a confirmation prompt first – stronger wording if automatic backup is switched off, since nothing is protecting your existing data in that case. Before writing, Squawker PC also checks that the scanner actually connected matches the model your profile expects (comparing, for example, “SDS200” against “SDS200E” tolerantly, since those are regional variants of the same hardware). If they genuinely don’t match, you’ll see a warning and a choice to cancel or continue anyway – continuing updates the profile to match whatever model was actually detected. This check is unique to the SDS100/SDS200/UBCD3600XLT family; it doesn’t exist for the UBC125XLT/C or other Uniden models.
While It’s Running
A status overlay walks through each stage as it happens – connecting, checking your configuration size, entering Mass Storage Mode, waiting for the SD card to mount, then writing your data. The whole window is locked while this runs.
There’s No Cancel Button
Unlike the UBC125XLT/C’s Programmer, there is no Stop/Cancel button once a write has started – you can’t interrupt it partway through from within Squawker PC. Once you click Send to Scanner and confirm, it runs to completion (or failure) on its own.
No Partial-Write Reporting if Something Goes Wrong
If a write is interrupted – the connection drops, the app closes unexpectedly, the SD card is removed – there’s no “wrote N of M lists” summary the way there is for some other scanner families, and no automatic rollback. This makes the Auto backup before sending option genuinely important for this family specifically: it’s your only real safety net if a write doesn’t complete cleanly. Restoring that backup (see Reading, Backing Up & Restoring) is the way back if something goes wrong mid-write.
No Need to Eject the SD Card Yourself
You don’t need to safely eject or manually reinsert the SD card at any point – once writing finishes, the scanner exits Mass Storage Mode and reboots on its own after a short timeout, or you can restart it manually straight away. A completion message confirms how many Favorites Lists were written and how long it took.
