Common Frequencies covers the non-aviation frequencies scanner users look for day to day — everything outside the aviation, business (WTR), and amateur repeater datasets, which each have their own dedicated view.

What’s in Here

The dataset is organised into categories including:

• Marine VHF / Marine UHF — ship-to-shore, ship-to-ship, coastguard, and harbour communications.
• CB UK — UK Citizens’ Band, plus CB CEPT/Import variants used by radios sold outside the standard UK CB allocation.
• PMR446 Analogue/Digital — licence-free short-range walkie-talkies, widely sold for site, event, and family use.
• FRS/GMRS/HAM — US-style licence-free/light-license short-range radios increasingly sold in the UK, alongside amateur (Ham) radio frequencies.
• Outside Broadcast (PMSE) — wireless microphones and comms used in TV and event production.
• Mountain Rescue — frequencies used by UK mountain rescue teams.
• FireGround — on-scene incident-command channels used by fire services.
• ISS/LPD433 — International Space Station downlink frequencies (a popular hobby scanning target) alongside LPD433 licence-free low-power devices.
• Business radio schemes (Polycon, Simple Site, Simple UK Light, Suppliers Light) — Ofcom’s simplified/light licensing categories for low-power business radio use, distinct from the individually-licensed entries covered in the WTR (Business) dataset.

Using the Picker

The toolbar shows a single button — its label changes to reflect your current selection (e.g. “Select Category(s)” when nothing’s chosen, a category name if you’ve picked one, or “N selected” for multiple). Click it to open the category picker, with Select All and Clear buttons, then OK to apply. This draws on the same underlying data as the Common Scanner Frequencies tool on the website, with categories working the same way.
