AR-DV10 Battery, Charging & Power

Summary: Powering and charging the AR-DV10.

The Battery Pack (BP-10)

7.4 V 2000 mAh Li-ion. Charge it fully before first use. Cautions from the manual:

  • Don’t leave the charger connected continuously for more than 24 hours.
  • A completely flat battery shortens its life. The receiver draws a little power even when off, so remove the pack if you won’t use it for over a month or recharge it monthly. Out of the receiver, charge it for about 2 hours every 6 months.
  • Roughly 300 to 500 charges (the manual gives both figures); replace it when it gets weak.
  • Never short the terminals, open, crush or solder the pack, and keep it below 60 C.
  • Use only the supplied AOR pack and adapter.

Fitting and Removing

Insert the pack, press the battery latch on the bottom onto the catch and slide the grey locking plate up until “LOCK” shows. The receiver switches on automatically. To remove, switch off, slide the plate down until “UNLOCK” shows, release the latch and lift the pack out. The rubber gasket must sit properly.

Charging

Switch the receiver off, then either:

  • Fast charger cradle (CC-10) with the AA-10 adapter: the cradle LED is red while charging and green when full; about 6-7 hours. A flashing red LED means a charging error: check for dirt on the contacts, or if the pack is over-discharged connect the AC adapter directly to the receiver for about 10 minutes and then return to the cradle.
  • AC adapter direct to the receiver: much slower (about 8-9 hours to 90% and 11-12 hours to full); “CHARGING” shows after about 10 seconds. Don’t leave it connected after full charge.

Operating while charging makes it take much longer.

Alkaline Batteries (BT-10)

The tray takes six AA alkaline cells. Never use rechargeable NiCd or NiMH cells, because the tray has no thermal or over-current protection. Insert each cell’s minus end first.

Car Power (DC-10)

Plug the DC-10 into a 12 V or 24 V cigarette lighter socket and the receiver’s EXT DC jack. Converters supplied with other AOR receivers aren’t compatible and unapproved accessories may damage the receiver.
