AR-DV3 Troubleshooting & Specifications

Summary: Checks for common AR-DV3 problems and the specifications.

Before You Suspect a Fault

  • Won’t power on: is the AC adapter connected correctly? Is the USB-PD supply 15 V, 30 W or better?
  • No sound: is the volume at minimum, the squelch too high, or voice/tone squelch on? Is the antenna connected?
  • Poor sensitivity: is the frequency right, is ATT on, is RF gain enabled, are the mode and IF bandwidth right? Try auto mode.
  • Strange audio: tone squelch, voice squelch, wrong D-CR scramble code, or the descrambler.
  • Doesn’t respond: key lock or remote mode.
  • Auto mode gets cancelled: changing the IF bandwidth, step or mode cancels it.
  • Search or scan won’t stop or restarts: check the squelch level, whether the frequency is registered as PASS/SKIP, tone squelch, the FREE function and PROTECT.
  • Can’t change channel contents: memory channel PROTECT may be ON.
  • Frequency is shifted: the frequency must divide by the step; use step adjust.
  • Some digital transmissions can’t be received: not all digital modes are supported.
  • Clock drifts: it isn’t as accurate as a clock; adjust it sometimes.
  • Won’t start after a firmware update: try the recovery function.
