AR-DV1 Safety, Care & Legal Notes

Summary: The safety, care and legal points from the AR-DV1 manual.

Power and Handling

  • Use a good quality regulated 10.8-16 V DC supply (1 A minimum) or the supplied adapter; never connect it directly to AC or a 24 V system. The DC jack is centre positive and the chassis is at negative ground.
  • The receiver has no user-adjustable internal parts. Contact AOR for service.
  • Keep it out of sunlight, heat, damp, dust and vibration, and keep liquids away from the speaker grille, controls and jacks.
  • Clean with a soft dry cloth; never use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Unplug it if you won’t use it for a long time.

Antenna and Earthing

The antenna input is for 50 ohm unbalanced antennas. For a base station on shortwave a separate earth rod usually helps, but consider the implications carefully if your building uses a Protective Multiple Earth (PME) system; if in doubt consult a qualified electrician. Never earth to a gas pipe. Avoid running antennas near power cables. The maximum antenna input is 0 dBm.

Mobile Use

It hasn’t been built or tested to meet any mobile safety requirements.

US Consumer Version

Cellular frequencies are blocked and the analogue voice descrambler is unavailable; the FCC notice says modification to receive cellular services is prohibited.

Legal

Check the laws where you live before listening; in the UK it’s an offence to divulge or make use of the content of messages you weren’t entitled to receive. AOR’s warranty in the manual is a US-only limited warranty.
